POSITION SUMMARY:


The System / Network Engineer provides operational and technical support to ensure the ongoing stability of a multiple site WAN environment. In this role, you will be part of a small team responsible for supporting an infrastructure of 150+ physical and virtual servers including network equipment supporting 42 remote sites. In addition to server hardware support, this position is responsible for scheduling, testing, and implementing enhancements of Windows servers, application installation & configuration and ongoing maintenance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive.   • Perform operating systems installation and administration for Microsoft Windows serversPerform regular maintenance as required to hardware and operating systems to maintain maximum system uptime.Monitor and ensure system backups are completed to site schedules, perform data restoration and disaster recovery using backup appliances.Manage web content filtering using software and network appliances.Manage Windows Server Update Services server.Active directory account management.PowerShell Scripting for automation and task management.Perform log management for servers, firewall & select appliances.Support multiple district approved software and application platforms.Provide detailed technical expertise in the diagnosis and resolution of systems related problems.Prepare and document standard operating procedures and protocols (Confluence).Provide regular status reports to IT management for system performance and capacity measurement metrics.Use acquired knowledge to influence and improve IT practices and technologies.Provide support for critical systems during and outside of normal business hours when required.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participate in and successfully complete self-study as well as formal training classes as assigned.Other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree (or working towards successful completion)
Three (3) years of hands-on work related experience in a server environment with multiple locations, including system administration, troubleshooting, security, backups, installation and upgrades including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Windows Server 2012 & 2016.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Evidence of outstanding customer service skills
Must have specific vision abilities required by this position including; close vision, color vision, distant vision, and peripheral vision.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with installation, updates & support with VMware ESXi.
Experience with SCCM, Office 365 and/or G Suite for Education
Experience working in a public school system

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis
Valid Washington State driver's license
Must have access to a vehicle for local travel within the District

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Network switch, router and firewall management.
Web Server troubleshooting with knowledge of various versions of IIS.
Networking principles, configuration, troubleshooting and installation.
OS hardening and Web security approaches.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will constantly sit, stand and walk, bend neck and back, use hands for fine manipulation, repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling. The employee will occasionally be required to climb stairs/ladder, lift and reach overhead, and lift/carry. The employee must constantly lift/carry up to 10 pounds and must frequently lift /carry up to 20 pounds. The employee will occasionally lift/carry a maximum of 35 lbs. The employee is occasionally required to push/pull a maximum weight of 100 pounds.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The position occasionally deals with angry and distraught employees and community members.

WORK SCHEDULE
This is a twelve (12) month, 260 day a year position. Some evening work may be required.

This position reports to and is evaluated by the Executive Director of Information Technology Services.
