Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Special Education, the Transition Supervisor will be responsible for the administration and supervision of the Transition Division including Transition Programming, instruction and services for students with disabilities. The Transition Supervisor will provide leadership in the development, implementation and administration of transition services including: IEP development, transition services, assessments and activities including related services. The Transition Supervisor will oversee all work performed by staff within the community to establish vocational sites and business relationships to provide vocational training and job development for students to experience community based services.

Roles & Responsibilities
The position includes but is not limited to the following list of representative duties;
  • Coordinates school staff and other District staff to research and implement effective transition services for students with disabilities.Provides instructional leadership to school sites in the development of quality transition services.Develops, oversee, and implements a career development program and transition services that meets standard and District goals.Works closely with High School and Middle School Administrators, teachers, and guidance counselors to facilitate transition programming.Cultivate partnerships with stakeholders including state agencies, nonprofits, universities and corporations to support opportunities and resources for youthEnsure that Career Planning Teams are established and held for each student with a disability 14 years of age and older.Attends IEP meetings in the role of Transition Supervisor.Ensures that IEP teams develop and implements the transition outcomes, instructional areas, and services needed for students with disabilities.Works closely with special education teachers to meet transition needs of students.Provides professional development and training to parents, related service providers, teachers, teacher assistants and transition Council.Manages school and community work-based learning opportunities.Coordinates job placements, vocational sites, and community opportunities.Identifies, establishes and maintains linkages with community resources and Initiates and maintains collaboration with employers, and adult service providers.Assists teacher assistant and vocational counselors in monitoring student job performance based on student need as designated in the IEP.Work with out of district placements needed for students with disabilitiesDevelops and maintains a working relationship with businesses, agencies, and organizations which provide post-secondary services for students with disabilities.Communicates with parents, students, staff, community/adult service providers and agencies about issues related to the successful transition of special education Middle and High School students, ages 14-21, into post-secondary adult life.Serves as a resource to families, parents, and students in accessing transition services as well as providing information about transition topics.Keeps records of appropriate documentation during the transition process and be able to report progress of transition programming.Establishes relationships with Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, BHDDH and other state agencies to assist parents and students with the post-secondary process.Attends administrative meetings and work sessions as required, and attends professional seminars, conferences, and workshops as required by the position.Performs any other duties assigned by the Special Education DirectorWork directly with related service providers to meet the needs of students with disabilities by assisting with the scheduling of professional development, training, and the hiring of staff.Working directly with colleges and universities to address post-secondary needs of students with disabilities.Works and keeps records and data of student placements as it relates to students with disabilities.Monitor Community Transition Teacher Assistants, all Transition Academies, and transition needs of the District.Any and all other duties required by the District

Salary Rate Range
$103,625 - $111,143

RIDE Requirements
Administrator Special Education Certificate from RIDE

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree mandatory

  • degree in Business Administration preferred

  • Certificate in Supported Employment

  • Experience in the field of transition in an urban district

  • Experience in vocational assessments

  • Minimum one year working as a case manager for transition services

  • Experience in conducting Employment Planning Teams and career development plans meetings

  • Experience in job coaching and career development preferred

  • Experience working directly with a diverse youth population preferably within a job development or on the job training program
