The Wayne County Board of Education is seeking a superintendent to lead the school system as it continues its pursuit of excellence.  Applications are due by March 15, 2021

Serving over 18,000 students from pre-k through grade 12, Wayne County Public Schools is the 21st largest school system in North Carolina.  The school system operates 32 schools, including 13 elementary schools, 9 middle schools, 6 traditional high schools, an early/middle college high school, a school of engineering, and 2 alternative schools. Candidates must meet the legal requirements to be licensed as a superintendent in North Carolina or be qualified to serve under the State Board of Education’s alternative guidelines.  Superintendent experience is strongly preferred. Central office and building-level experience are also preferred.  A doctorate degree or progress toward a doctorate degree is preferred but not required.  A successful candidate must demonstrate ability and success in (1) visionary educational leadership, including an understanding of equity factors and the influence of equity on educational outcomes; (2) school- and/or school-district leadership addressing opportunity gaps for students; (3) curriculum and instruction; (4) goal-setting and monitoring achievement; (5) fostering community and intergovernmental partnerships; (6) administration and organization of short-term and long-term strategic planning, budgeting, and personnel and facilities management; (7) communication and effective team-building; (8) ongoing financial management and procuring additional funding; (9) visibility and involvement in community activities; (10) leadership in maintaining safe and orderly school environments; (11) planning and funding of school facilities; and (12) decision-making, delegation, and follow-through.  In addition, a successful candidate will be required to live in Wayne County.  Salary commensurate with experience.
