The Peddie School

Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

The Peddie School invites nominations and applications for a Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Situated on 280 acres in Hightstown, New Jersey, less than ten miles from Princeton, Peddie is an hour from New York City and Philadelphia. The Peddie School was founded in 1864 as the Hightstown Female Seminary, a Baptist preparatory school. Later that year, boys were admitted, and the school began a series of name changes. In 1872, the school took its current name in honor of philanthropist and politician Thomas B. Peddie (1808-89), who gave the school a $25,000 gift. Gifts from Ambassador Walter H. Annenberg '27 were used for the construction of two libraries, dormitories, and an athletic center, among other projects.

In 1993, Annenberg gave $100 million to Peddie, which provided an endowed fund for financial aid, enabling students from every walk of life to receive a Peddie education. Long committed to enrolling a student body defined only by their shared excitement, curiosity, and character, Peddie seeks to make support for the diversity of our student and adult community a leading priority.   While each member of The Peddie School community is expected to further the goals of equity, diversity and inclusion, the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion oversees the school’s strategic initiatives in this area.

The DEI Director serves as a critical resource, advisor, and organizer of support for students and all employees, providing for diversity training and opportunities for community discourse on institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion. Reporting to and partnering with the Head of School, the DEI Director will be a key member of the senior leadership team; who, like other senior leaders, reports at trustee meetings on progress and challenges in the assigned area of responsibility and engages with the board members to support and inform their work.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record in leading and directing diverse teams. A record of building successful partnerships with faculty, staff, and students. The Director must have strong and proactive communication skills, a collaborative leadership style and a growth mindset.  Advanced degree and teaching experience preferred. Familiarity with boarding schools is a plus.
