Who We Are

Founded in 2010, Challenge Preparatory Charter School ("Challenge Prep") provides students and

families with a successful K-10 academic program in Far Rockaway, Queens. Challenge Charter High

School ("CCHS") offers a unique early college and career and technical education ("CCTE") program to

ensure that student's graduate prepared to be successful in the college and/or career pathway of their

choice. CCHS provides an academically rigorous program that integrates content with real-world

technical skills found in the following fields: Aviation, Culinary Arts, Health Sciences, and Hospitality.

Through strategic collaborations with industry partners, students will have access to personalized

academic and social-emotional learning sequences, authentic field experiences, career counseling, and

college coursework.

Understanding the Role

The Internship/CTE Field Coordinator will report to the principal or his/her designee. The position

works collaboratively with administrators, student services personnel, and teachers to ensure the

delivery of career development services; facilitates linkages with parents, business/industry,

post-secondary institutions, and community organizations to support student's transition to postsecondary

education and employment. It is understood that Challenge Charter is one organization with multiple

sites, and it is expected that all members of the team collaborate to support all of our scholars.

Ongoing Specific Responsibilities

The staff of Challenge Charter High School is committed to teaching students the values of scholarship,

respect, honesty, courage, and balance in a collaborative technology-infused, inclusive family-like

environment. The duties of the CCHS Internship/CTE Field Coordinator will include the following:
  • Serve as a liaison with the CTE community partnerships that provide opportunities for students
  • Assist students with the selection of appropriate academic and CTE course of study
  • Coordinate career planning activities in classrooms, groups, or individual sessions
  • Provide and coordinate administration and interpretation of career assessments
  • Provide information on postsecondary education programs and employment opportunities
  • Assist students with postsecondary education and employment opportunities
  • Facilitate work-based learning opportunities
  • Provide and coordinate activities for students to develop employability skills
  • Promote the integration of career research and work-based learning opportunities into CTE and academic courses
  • Promote the use of technology for career planning and research
  • Publicize partnership resources
  • Participate in professional development activities at the local, regional, state, and national levels
  • Engage in professional growth opportunities to remain current with trends, demands, and emerging careers in a rapidly changing workforce
  • Assist with activities that ensure program funding and compliance

All CCHS staff members are expected to attend a weeklong summer planning institute at the University

of Connecticut which will offer an essential opportunity for staff to be involved in developing the

school's culture and instructional program. Additionally, the school will offer opportunities to

participate in the following:
  • After-school and/or Saturday tutoring, sports, enrichment, arts and family programs
  • In-house committees of special programs
  • Planning with colleagues specific strategies for CTE career program success for all learners, including our special needs and English Language Learners
  • Meeting with guidance staff to ensure all social-emotional and mandated counseling needs of students are met

SELECTION CRITERIA

The successful candidate will demonstrate:
  • Evidence of commitment to continuous professional growth
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with colleagues, parents, students, industry partners, and the community

For Phase 1 of the process, in addition to the cover letter, resume, and interview, Applicants must also

provide three professional references, one of which must be from a direct supervisor.




Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working in a CTE setting preferred
  • Highly motivated to work with students from underserved areas; devoted to closing the achievement gap
  • Ability to travel from school to work cites
  • Experience working in an urban school setting preferred
  • Strong teamwork ethic
  • Ability to use technology to create spreadsheets to track student progress




Work Year

This is a full-time position that begins in mid-August and goes through the end of June. All staff are

expected to attend Confratute, a weeklong summer planning institute in mid-July at the University of

Connecticut, which will offer an essential opportunity for staff to be involved in developing the school's

culture and instructional program. A virtual alternative will be offered should circumstances warrant.
