ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position is part of the KEA bargaining unit. Physical therapists use their unique expertise to help children prepare for and perform important learning and school related activities in order to fulfill their role as students. Students must be eligible for special education by meeting the following criteria: (1) a child has a documented disability; (2) there is an adverse educational impact on the student's ability to progress in the general education curriculum; and (3) is in need of specially designed instruction by a physical and/or occupational therapist.

ASSIGNMENT: Candidate will serve as itinerant physical therapist providing therapy to students with disabilities, ages 3-21. Candidate will consult with teachers, parents, and other support staff.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Special Services staff receives additional benefits through an expansive array of classes and training opportunities. Professional development is a priority. With ongoing revisions in the federal and state regulations, Kent provides training opportunities to ensure that staff is kept abreast of the changes. Collegial sharing and individual mentoring is readily available to all staff. New teachers are trained and supported throughout the year. Instructional strategies and materials validated by research are selected and used extensively in our programs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Current Washington Education Staff Associate (Physical Therapist) certificate is required and must be on file prior to beginning work
2. Major in Physical Therapy
3. Ability to construct and utilize a wide variety of adaptive equipment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. NDT (neurodevelopment therapy) training
  2. Proficiency in a second language
  3. Ability to exhibit multicultural and ethnic understanding and sensitivity with the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups in the school community
  4. Experience working with a diverse student population and the specific school demographics
  5. Desired characteristics are: flexibility; ability to organize ideas, time and materials to accomplish goals; enthusiasm; ability to express ideas clearly and understand concepts being discussed ability to learn new ideas and skills; ability and willingness to develop favorable relationships with students; and willingness to model behavior deemed appropriate by the school district and the community.
