ASSIGNMENT: We have several full time or part time positions available. These positions will provide speech/language therapy for special education students, ages 3 through 21.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position is part of the KEA bargaining unit. Special Services staff receives additional benefits through an expansive array of classes and training opportunities. Professional development is a priority. With ongoing revisions in the federal and state regulations, Kent provides training opportunities to ensure the staff is kept abreast of the changes. Collegial sharing and individual mentoring is readily available to staff. New specialists are trained and supported throughout the year. Instructional strategies and materials validated by research are selected and used extensively in our programs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Valid Washington State ESA certification for speech language pathologist is required and must be on file prior to beginning work.
  2. Major in Speech/Language Therapy
  3. Master's degree
  4. Must be able to provide instruction for children with disorders of speech, hearing and language to improve communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Proficiency in a second language
  2. Ability to exhibit multicultural and ethnic understanding and sensitivity with the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups in the school community
  3. Experience working with a diverse student population and the specific school demographics
  4. Desired characteristics are: flexibility; ability to organize ideas, time and materials to accomplish goals; enthusiasm; ability to express ideas clearly and understand concepts being discussed; ability to learn new ideas and skills; ability and willingness to develop favorable relationships with students; knowledge of current approaches to teaching; and willingness to model behavior deemed appropriate by the school district and the community.
