Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- HVAC/Refrigeration Systems including boilers, chillers, pumps, motors, air handling units, compressors, and rooftop units.
- Carpentry, electrical, and plumbing.
- Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Safety practices and OSHA requirements.
- Construction standards
- Grounds maintenance and athletic field maintenance.
- Health Life Safety practices in schools.
- Principles of supervision and training.
Ability to:
- Read and write in English.
- Report to work and perform the duties of the position for assigned hours for the entire work week.
- Work day, evening, or night hours as assigned.
- Be available for call-outs for emergencies or unplanned work.
- Effectively direct and instruct others in the performance of maintenance functions.
- Exercise independent judgment and to formulate work procedures within the limits of the position to accomplish assigned task.
- Prepare reports, maintain accurate files and records.
- Interpret and apply directives relating to worker health and safety.
- Establish and maintain effective, productive working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and the school community.
- Use personal vehicle in the performance of job duties.
Training and Experience:
- Certified/Licensed in one or more of the following fields is required:
- HVAC
- Electrical
- Plumbing
- Boilers
- Experience in reading blueprints and construction specifications.
- 5 years of increasingly responsible maintenance experience within a school district or a large multi-building operation, with a minimum of three years in a supervisory position.
- Any combination of training or experience which provides the equivalent level of knowledge and abilities
- Must possess a valid Illinois driver's license.
- Pre-employment medical examination, including tuberculosis clearance
- Pass a Regional Office of Education Fingerprint/Background Clearance including Federal Bureau of Investigation
- Utilize resources from other work units when required to perform the job's functions.
- Must communicate verbally and through email with district schools when providing information.
- Generally the job requires 80% walking/standing and 20% sitting.
- This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
- Ability to lift or move 75 lbs.
