E ssential Functions and Objectives:

- The Middle School Teacher teaches specific grade level subject matter to a diverse middle school student population, following DPS standards-based curriculum. Helps all students develop competence and confidence simultaneously through a balance of acquiring basic skills and developing conceptual understanding. Monitors, supervises, coordinates and enforces rule of conduct and behavior for assigned students, and reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy. Observes, evaluates, reports and records students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health. Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.

Knowledge, Experience, & Other Qualifications:

- Must possess a current Colorado Department of Education Teachers License with appropriate endorsement.
- Provides content instruction to linguistically diverse students in English only.
- Provides instruction in Language Arts following DPS standards-based curriculum.

Denver Green School Northfield is a new middle school option that opened in 2019-20.. We now serve a diverse population of students (40% white, 24% Latino/Hispanic, 22% African-American, 14% two or more races). Our school's deep commitment to our mission, vision and values, and the bold ideas they represent manifests itself across our entire school community. Our commitment to shared leadership is seen by including students in our CSC and having teachers make critical school decisions on our partnership. Our value of relevant and engaging learning is seen in the dozen excursions we take each year. Our prioritization of teacher empowerment is seen in the support teachers receive in coaching and from our behavior team, but most importantly, in the autonomy to build dynamic units. Our students and families consistently remark that DGS Northfield is a joyous place, where all students, regardless of race or socio-economic status feel safe and loved for. We are located in Northfield, at 56th and Galena. Our student schedule runs Monday-Thursday from 8:20-3:50, and on Friday from 8:20-12:20pm in order to give teachers a significant block of time to plan, analyze student work and collaborate. We follow the DPS calendar with the exception of teachers returning to work in the beginning of August for our paid curriculum development workshop. We are an innovation zone school, and as a result, we have more autonomy than a traditional school, allowing us to make decisions like putting teachers on the leadership team and opting-out a district appointed instructional superintendent.

At the conclusion of the phone interviews, select candidates will be identified to come to DGS Northfield to instruct our students and then participate in a formal interview.

Description: 6th Grade Literacy/MLE Teacher Our 6th grade literacy teacher/Multilingual Education (MLE) will teach two classes of 6th grade literacy, and three 45-minute blocks of English Language Development to our Emerging Bilingual Students. Teachers will work with their coach and their fellow 6th grade literacy teachers to develop an engaging scope and sequence that cover's Common Core Literacy Standards while also supporting students development in a few key Education for Sustainability standards. Ideally, teachers will incorporate excursions and other relevant learning opportunities into these units. Each class will meet 90 minutes Monday-Thursday and for 45 minutes on Friday. Teachers will have a 90-minute planning time and a 45-minute lunch. This role will also likely teach a Monday-Thursday English Language Development block during our ILT block that will support our emerging bilingual students in English development in Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. Teachers would work with two literacy classes that average about 30 students per class, so 60 students total, and an emerging bilingual population of around 35 split across three 45-minute ILT blocks. This role will also help the MLE team in completing necessary testing, paperwork, and progress monitoring for our emerging bilingual students Teachers are expected to enjoy their job, to have fun with colleagues and speak about students and families using positive language. Teachers are expected to collaborate with an amazing group of teachers to push the development of their craft. Teachers will be asked to progress monitor their students' growth and respond to student needs via our weekly formative data team meeting during Friday PD. Teachers are expected to get to work by 8am and can leave as early as 3:45pm. We have two current 6th grade teachers that do great work, so it will be important that a new candidate can join a team and balance advocating for their ideas and incorporating existing units if they are strong enough.

Qualifications: Current Colorado Department of Education Endorsement for Teaching Secondary OR for Primary Education, ELA-E or ELA-S
