The position must be posted for a minimum of 10 days School Description: Manzanita SEED is a project-based learning school with a focus on language, culture, and family-school integration. Project-based learning is a model that emphasizes learning academic skills and developing strong character through rigorous, engaging, and relevant content. Reading and writing are taught across the curriculum and embedded in the study of social studies and science content standards. Arts are also integrated throughout the curriculum, and both the process and product of student learning are showcased at bi-annual Expositions of Student Work. At SEED, we believe the diversity of our student population is a strength to be shared. Our dual language immersion program and inclusion-based special education programs are a testament to this philosophy. History: SEED became a California Title I Distinguished School in 2010 and received a National Title I Distinguished School Award for making more progress than any other school in the state of California in closing the achievement gap. Manzanita SEED opened in 2005 as one of two elementary schools created through the community-driven redesign of the Manzanita Elementary Campus. Ensure that every child receives an excellent, free, public education. Lead teachers, staff and community members in creating a collaborative learning community. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: (Incumbents may perform any combination of the essential functions shown below. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Improve student achievement by nurturing excellent teaching and learning and building a safe and supportive student culture. Supervise students and staff. Use data to inform decisions about instruction. Distribute leadership across staff, students. Manage and evaluate staff using sound methods. Engage parents in student learning and site functioning. Develop and empower teams. Build trust to facilitate change. Plan strategically. Schedule and manage effectively. Manage personal and staff time and priorities. Build and maintain a network of support outside the school. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to: Master's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university with graduate courses and a minimum of three (3) years teaching experience; Valid California driver's license. Valid California credential authorizing service as a principal. Employment eligibility may include fingerprints, health (TB) and/or other employment clearance. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of and/or experience with dual language/bilingual programming Culturally responsive and eager to serve racially and socioeconomically diverse students and families, with a commitment to/experience with a Restorative Justice approach. At least 5 years classroom teaching experience (K-5 preferred) Knowledge of/experience with Expeditionary Learning or project-based learning principles and key practices Excellent communicator with a strong collaborative style and a commitment to transparency and building trust and positive, productive relationships within and among SEED's student body, staff and parent communities. Values, advocates for and supports ALL learners, including underserved populations, Special Ed, etc., even with limited resources. Demonstrated success in improving the social-emotional experience and academic outcomes for all students. Fosters relationships with district, community and shared campus partners to advocate for and secure necessary funding and resources. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: California content frameworks and standard Numerous, proven, successful instructional practices Leadership skills, management strategies and community building techniques Local policies, state and federal laws relating to minors Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint ABILITY TO: Provide effective instructional leadership Create nurturing and safe learning based on high expectations for all students Develop collaborative, professional learning communities Analyze data and use it to make decisions Provide professional development and coaching to teachers Distribute leadership among administrators, teachers, staff, parents, students & community members Effectively manage staffing, budget, facility, and other administrative responsibilities Build and lead the school community in attaining community, school-based, district, state and federal goals Use relational databases, web-based tools, the internet and other technologies Calmly and efficiently handle crises and solve problems Effectively communicate orally and in writing Manage competing priorities and time. PERFORMANCE METRICS: TBD WORK CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Office environment; fast-paced work; constant interruptions. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to extreme. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and make presentations; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard; seeing to monitor various activities and read documents, and view computer monitors; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally; lifting light objects.
