National Heritage Academies (NHA) is currently searching for a part-time Payroll Associate to assist in the processing and recording of NHA's payroll. This will be a 24 hour per week position and the Payroll Associate will be responsible for providing timely and accurate information and participate in all aspects of the bi-weekly payroll for all exempt and non-exempt employees. This position will report directly to the Payroll Manager and will work out of our Service Center located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The ideal candidate for this position will have at least two years of previous payroll experience along with a strong computer proficiency.

Your Role

  • Follow guidelines and perform duties associated with the, accurate/timely, bi-weekly payroll processing
  • Address/research employee questions and issues in a timely, accurate and professional manner
  • Compile payroll data and perform hourly audits throughout the pay period
  • Record accurately and timely, manual time sheets
  • Process changes affecting employee wages (tax exemptions, direct deposit, garnishment orders)
  • Interact with external and internal staff members
  • Work extensively with custom reports using Excel, queries, and Onbase to support the payroll department
  • Assist in account reconciliations for accrual and expense accounts
  • Assist in recording, monitoring and communicating deadlines and schedules
  • Assist with communications and education of employees on payroll policies and procedures


Requirements

  • Associates degree or minimum 2 years payroll department experience
  • High degree of computer proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Experience working with payroll software. Working knowledge of Lawson, a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet all deadlines
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively within a fast-paced team environment
  • High degree of problem solving/judgment skills, and high level of attention to detail and accuracy
