POSITION SUMMARY The Director of Health Services is responsible for the overall activities of the Health Services Department, such as development of medical and health procedures and policies; hiring and training of Health Services staff; and serving as a liaison between King County Public Health and other health care agencies, resulting in an efficient delivery of health services for the District. The person in this position will serve as the District contact for health-related areas.
School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being and academic success of students. School nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; and intervene with actual and potential health problems. School nurses work within and outside the school district to develop, monitor, and assess outcomes of nursing care plans. The certificated nurse assists in the development and evaluation of IEP and 504 plans of students with health needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive.   • Chair monthly meetings of the nursing staff, including development of agendas and dissemination of pertinent information, including providing or arranging for in-services and trainings as neededPartner with HR to hire Health Services personnelManage the Health Services budgetCoordinate the Home Hospital program, including contracts with OSPI, and documentation of services providedOversee and coordinate the training for District staff for the management of the health rooms and the administration of medicationsOversee the coordination of health screening throughout the DistrictOversee the Bloodborne Pathogen training, immunization, and communicable diseases programs for the District, and supervise follow-up service for contact incidence in cooperation with the Risk Management and Human Resources departments and King County Public HealthWork closely with the IT department to ensure that the District's Student Information System accurately reflects the State immunization requirements and student health-related informationRemain up-to-date on revisions or changes in licensure requirements, regulations, and WACs coming from the State, and other legal and policy issues pertaining to Health Services.Supervise health services staffManage the regular meetings of the Health Services staffManage and coordinate health services initiatives throughout the district

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science in Nursing

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
ESA Certificate-School Nurse
First Aid/CPR/AED certification for adult, child, and infant
History of positive evaluations
Experience in school nursing and health education
Experience providing an enthusiastic and positive learning climate that promotes appropriate behavior and successful learning

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
Washington State Driver's License
Criminal background check
Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis
First Aid/CPR/AED recertification before expiration

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Legal, technical, and contractual restrictions regarding health matters
Supervisory skills with regards to time management, direct and indirect supervision of staff

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will constantly sit, stand and walk, bend neck and back, use hands for repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling. The employee is frequently required to squat, kneel, and use hands for fine manipulation. The employee will occasionally be required to climb stairs/ladder, lift and reach overhead, crawl, and lift/carry. The employee must constantly lift/carry up to 10 lbs and must frequently lift/carry up to 25 lbs. The employee will occasionally lift/carry a maximum of 50 lbs. Any lifting over 50 lbs should be done with two people or a mechanical device. The employee is occasionally required to push/pull a maximum force of 300 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions and regularly works near video display. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position will experience inflexible deadlines, and frequent interruptions. This position is required to sit and maintain visual and auditory concentration for detail for extended periods. Demonstrate excellent manual dexterity and precision to use the phone handset During emergency situations, this position must be able to react quickly, accurately and calmly. The employee is required to travel to various locations. Nights and Weekends may be required occasionally to meet job demands.

WORK SCHEDULE
This position typically works, 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, 260 days per year
