POSITION SUMMARY

The Equity Policy Analyst will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the Atlanta Public Schools' Equity policy by assessing the impacts of district policies, administrative regulations, and District office and school-based practices on school and student outcomes by student classifications (i.e., race, class, and gender). The incumbent will be responsible for utilizing equity protocols and standards to evaluate district and school policies and practices that disproportionally harm or have unintended impacts on students, schools, and staff. The analyst will assist and provide equity-focused subject matter expertise to District leadership, ensuring district policies, procedures, administrative regulations, and practices give considerable attention to the least-served and underrepresented students and adhere to federal, local, and state regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Utilizes an equity-driven focus to regularly examine and evaluate the impact of district policies, administrative regulations, and practices on school and student outcomes
  • Collaborates with district leadership to recommend policy and administrative regulation revisions as needed to improve equity outcomes
  • Works with internal stakeholders and departments to determine the effectiveness and address the unintended effects of district policies, administrative regulations, and procedures on historically underserved populations
  • Analyzes internal and external data to identify trends related to the equity focus of the District to inform policy development and revisions, as needed
  • Advises the Equity Office and other teams of possible high-level focus areas and suggests strategies for addressing the focus areas, including capacity-building
  • Attends central office meetings and presents to senior leadership, and other stakeholders as requested
  • Supports all aspects of compliance and regulation for the Equity Office
  • Approaches work with a sense of possibility and sees challenges as opportunities for creative problem solving; takes initiative to explore issues and find potential innovative solutions
  • Excels in constantly changing environments and adapts flexibly in shifting projects or priorities to meet the needs of a dynamic transformation effort; comfortable with ambiguity and non-routine situations
  • Leads cross-functional teams across divisions and departments to instill an equity lens across the organization; increases the effectiveness of surrounding teams through collaborations, constant learning and supporting others; respects and is committed to learning from others
  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person or virtually and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours, and as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.


Requirements :

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a concentration in education, public administration, public policy, audit, business, or related field
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university, with a concentration in education, public administration, public policy, audit, business, or related field preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • 3 years of progressively responsible work experience that includes a commitment to equity as demonstrated by a proven track record of successfully engaging with and improving outcomes for diverse communities and student populations
  • Utilizes an equity lens for examining policies and procedures and their impacts on historically underserved and marginalized communities
  • Experience leading team discussions, presenting to various groups of stakeholders, and collaborating with senior-level management and community members on the examination of policies and practices

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Courageous and successful at challenging and influencing peers to approach all work with an equity lens
  • Comfortable engaging peers in difficult and courageous conversations related to inequities around race, gender, sexual orientation, ability status, etc.
  • Ability to engage with diverse staff, leadership, and constituents to promote trust, collaboration, and partnerships, both internal and external to the organization
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and work effectively with minimal supervision while adhering to strict deadlines in a fast-paced, complex environment
  • Ability to write detailed technical briefs, summaries, data-driven reports, and counter-narratives
  • Exceptional interpersonal/customer service, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to present information effectively to colleagues at all levels of the organization and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently as well as to function effectively in a collaborative team environment


Compensation :

Salary Grade: 129

Salary Range: FY'20 APS Salary Schedule (All Positions)
