Being an Animal Technician at Devereux has its Advantages

You will work with other dedicated professionals who share your passion for helping animals. We offer:

-Flexible schedule: 10 hours per weekend, 5 hours Saturday and 5 hours Sunday. Occasional extra shifts may be necessary.

Responsibilities : Provides caretaking duties for small animals in a petting zoo environment, maintains physical environment by performing housekeeping duties.

The Devereux Pennsylvania Children's Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Services (CIDDS) center in West Chester, Pennsylvania, serves children, adolescents and young adults - from birth to age 21 - with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and behavioral and emotional disorders. Each year, more than 1,000 children and adolescents receive specialized care, in the environment best suited to the unique challenges they face, all with the goal of providing each child with the academic, social, emotional and life skills needed to flourish in their home community.

The CIDDS Nurture Center is a companionable zoo program where students care for animals and learn functional, employment and social skills while building self-esteem and compassion. Through this animal enrichment program, students gain an understanding of "Service Learning," which uses active participation in service experiences that meet community needs while developing empathy, leadership skills and social responsibility.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and experience working with/or caring for animals.
  • Capable of displaying good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Driver's license required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
