THE OPPORTUNITY

Our Lodestar campus is looking for a Bilingual ELD Instructional Aide relentlessly committed to ensuring that traditionally underserved students of color achieve our mission of completing college and securing the career of choice. LCPS educators believe that this important mission is not only attainable; it is essential to transforming our Oakland community. The Temporary Bilingual ELD Instructional Aide is primarily responsible for providing small group and one on one support to students who are learning English within core classes as well as push-in support and collaboration with core classroom teachers and works collaboratively with classroom teachers and school leadership to ensure that the Lodestar ELD programs support all students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve as an in-person bilingual Spanish-speaking instructional aide on our campus supporting a cohort of newcomers for the remainder of the 20-21 school year, working in conjunction with an in-person lead teacher.
  • Deliver individual and small group instructional, academic, and language supports for designated English learners, including newcomer students, in order to support specified students' learning and close skill gaps and support the specified student's ability to engage in the core, non-ELD coursework with translation and other support.
  • Consistently implement support plans for all identified students to maximize success for all students.
  • Supports teachers in maintaining engagement and inclusion in the larger classroom culture by implementing preferred Lighthouse strategies and systems as well as the accommodations and modifications for English learners.
  • Collaborate weekly with teachers to identify, monitor progress through formal documentation methods, and collaboratively develop supports to match individual student needs.
  • Collaborate with lead teachers, school leaders, and other service providers to monitor progress and adjust practices to support student engagement in the full educational experience.
  • Communicate with families as needed to discuss progress and growth areas
  • Attend and actively participate in professional development activities, team and staff meetings to promote professional learning.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A.A. required, Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish, required
  • At least two years of student support, instructional aide or paraprofessional experience working in a school setting, highly preferred
  • At least two years working with youth in tutoring or school setting, preferred
  • Must be able to work in-person this spring.

SUPERVISION:

This position reports to Jeff Camarillo, Middle and High School Principal.

TIME COMMITMENT:

This is a nearly full-time .85 FTE (approximately 35-40 hours per week) temporary hourly non-exempt position that runs through the end of the 20-21 school year with opportunities to move into other aide or qualified positions once this one ends out. This position is expected to maintain a daily schedule of 8:00-4:00pm M,Tu,Th, Fri and 9:00-12:00pm on Wednesdays. Occasional additional hours for check-ins with supervisor or collaboration with colleagues may be required with previous approval and request by the supervisor.
