Copyeditor, Professional Learning Design
(12 Month Remote Contract Position)
Position Summary:
The Copyeditor for the Professional Learning Design team is responsible for both copyediting and proofreading materials in Adobe® Acrobat® Pro, Microsoft® Word® and PowerPoint®, or other formats as needed.
This individual is responsible for reviewing assets for grammar, style, and formatting; ensuring proper attribution of external sources cited; and adhering to brand and trademark guidelines. This 20-hour contract position will be an employee of a temporary staffing agency and will report to the Professional Learning Design Manager, Asset Management Team, with supervision by the Professional Learning Design Sr. Copyeditor.
Responsibilities:
  • Review Professional Learning Design content at each stage in the design process
  • Copyedit content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, usage, and syntax; enhance readability to produce cohesive, coherent, inclusive, and engaging text for an audience of K-12 educators
  • Copyedit a mixture of content in publication types such as workbooks, slide presentations, video scripts, and technical documentation
  • Proofread multiple versions of layout proofs for graphic designers
  • Ensure that all content adheres to organizational and departmental style guides
  • Use consistent terminology, style, and formatting across products
  • Ensure that materials contain proper attribution of sources cited
  • Perform work in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and in Adobe Acrobat Pro

  • Exceptional writing, copyediting, proofreading, and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle several projects simultaneously
  • Ability to organize time effectively, determine priorities, meet deadlines, and move work along while working in a rapid-response environment
  • Experience researching and verifying information from multiple sources
  • Acting as a collaborative and contributing team member to ensure that a high level of service is always offered to team, organization, and partners
  • Understanding of universal conditions for plagiarism and best preventive practices
  • Ability to identify and consider potential intellectual property liabilities
  • Ability to work with complex data
  • Strong attention to and affinity for detail and quality
  • Documenting processes and procedures as needed
  • Suggesting process improvements to ensure the quality and efficiency of work
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a timely manner using a variety of methods
  • Strong understanding and/or ability to quickly learn processes, tools, applications, software, and systems for Professional Learning Design
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of professionals
Education and Experience...
  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • Minimum three years' experience copyediting nonfiction materials is required; experience copyediting in a fast-paced environment managing multiple deadlines is required; experience in assessment or educational publishing is a plus
  • Education or training in copyediting is preferred, but not required
  • Proficiency using The Chicago Manual of Style is required; experience using a variety of styles (e.g., in-house styles) is preferred
  • Experience using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for copyediting and Adobe Acrobat Pro for proofreading is required
