Cambridge Rindge & Latin School is a comprehensive high school divided into four Learning Communities designed to promote high levels of learning and achievement for all students. The Opportunity:
The Assistant Principal will report directly to the Principal and will work cooperatively with Deans of Curriculum and Deans of Students to build a positive, effective school-wide climate and to develop and support student activities within a comprehensive program that enhances student engagement and achievement, this helping all students meet Cambridge Rindge and Latin School academic, social, and civic learning expectations.

Key Responsibilities :
  • Assume responsibility for oversight of facilities maintenance, building permits, and evaluation of custodial staff to ensure a safe and clean building; collaborate with central administration staff on building and grounds construction projects.
  • Supervise the lunch time period, including assignment of safety specialists and administrators to ensure optimal conditions for safety and cleanliness of buildings and grounds.
  • Facilitate meetings of Deans of Students, the Director of Safety and Security and staff, and others to promote consistent application of Student Handbook policies and procedures across learning communities for compliance with expectations for behavior.
  • Support school-wide efforts with Deans to increase student attendance in school and classes, and to oversee related data reporting and analysis.
  • Work with Deans of Students to promote teacher capacity to foster effective classroom environment.
  • Supervise and evaluate the in-school suspension teacher and program and oversee the conflict mediation program.
  • Publish student and other handbooks and documents as needed. Work with data center to prepare reports that provide student participation rates, trends, and program analyses.
  • Propose and support community building and student recognition activities with Deans across and within learning communities.
  • Oversee viable and supported school-wide student government and class activities, programs, and advisors.
  • Supervise, support, and initiate school hour and after-school programs to increase student engagement and achievement through activities that address the wide range of academic, social, and developmental needs of students including student clubs and club advisors, homework support, counseling, intervention and youth empowerment activities, and other opportunities designed to meet student needs and interests.
  • Initiate planning process to implement requirement for student extracurricular participation.
  • Coordinate CRLS Graduation and other school-wide celebrations of achievement
  • Coordinate with staff to schedule student activities for scheduled X-block periods and other school-wide events and assemblies, including opening of school orientation activities.
  • Conduct evaluations, participate in hiring committees, and perform other duties as needed.
Your Skill Set:
As the incoming Interim Assistant Principal you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
  • Master's degree with coursework in educational administration
  • Five years teaching/administrative experience, preferably in an diverse urban, multicultural, multilingual setting.
  • Massachusetts licensure/certification: Principal/Assistant Principal 9-12.
  • A strong work ethic, alongside a commitment to doing whatever it takes for students to excel.
