PURPOSE OF JOB
Teaches one or more subjects to students by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructs students by lecturing, demonstrating, and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.
Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
Assigns lesson and corrects homework.
Teaches a Current Issues class in an effort to recruit students for debate.
Sponsors the Debate-KC program.
Serves as a liaison between Debate-KC and KCPS
Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress.
Keeps an attendance record.
Maintains discipline in classroom.
Meets with parents to discuss student progress and problems.
Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
Performs related duties such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting course of study, and counseling student in adjustment and academic problems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from four-year college or university
Missouri State Certification in subject area Social Studies (9-12)
SUCCESS FACTORS
Demonstrated experience and/or training in current techniques and skills in teaching secondary level students.
Teaching experience in urban schools.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, lift objects of at least ten pounds. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Length of work year: 8 hours per day; 5 days/week; 185 work days
