Job Description:
The Project Based Learning teacher will be responsible for instruction of students Kindergarten through 5th grade as part of the specials rotation. Classroom instruction should include a focus on interdisciplinary project-based learning utilizing K-5 Connecticut Core Standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties and responsibilities describe the general expectations of the person assigned to this position and is not intended to be an exhaustive list. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending upon building assignments and other factors. A project based learning teacher facilitates classroom instruction includes the following characteristics:
- Units of study are designed to develop and enhance 21st Century Skills, including but limited to Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication.
- Student choice in designing projects
- A classroom culture that encourages a growth mindset through error and change
- Student research in order to access, manage and analyze information
- Reflection used to modify or change project direction and outcome to enhance student growth
- Formative and summative assessments used to maximize teacher decision making and student growth opportunities
- Listening and speaking skills are naturally incorporated in student presentation of projects
- A classroom environment that promotes the 4 Cs of 21st Century Skills (creativity, collaboration, communication. critical thinking
- Exploration of real-world problems and challenges
- Providing additional learning opportunities for students through multiple modalities
- Research skills using library-media resources as well as technology
- Communication with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student's progress and interpret the school program. Interacts with students, staff and parents in a positive and professional manner
- Maintains professional competence professional learning activities provided by the district as well as self-selected professional growth activities.

Required Qualifications:
- CT Elementary Certification
- At least 5 years successful teaching experience in a K-5 elementary classroom
- Deep understanding of Project-Based Learning
- Experience in the design and implementation of engaging, interdisciplinary units of study centered on real-world, complex problems for which students design and present visual representations of the solution.
Preferred Qualification
- Solid understanding of Quadrant D Teaching and Learning Strategies (International Center for Leadership in Education-Rigor/Relevance Framework)
Days: Monday Friday
Salary: In accordance with the NFT contract
