The Data Management resident will support design, development, and implementation of software and tool development for the innovative School Systems and Data Analytics Department (known as sysDaar).

The Residency Program

Residents will provide critical support in developing and maintaining New Visions' suite of custom web applications that directly support educators in seizing every opportunity for student success. Residents will make meaningful contributions to new and on-going projects; leverage opportunities to learn new data science, data architecture and data analytics frameworks; and launch new projects focused on one of the following areas: test automation, release management, or data analytics.

Each Resident position is a six month, part-time position with possible renewal for a subsequent six months.

Essential Job Functions:
  • You will work with software developers, data analysts and product managers to maintain the New Visions Data Model and to add tables and pipeline elements when called for by new features and tools.
  • You'll look for ways to streamline data to decrease processing time and simplify our model.
  • You'll create documentation to support further development of the model.
  • You'll script quality assurance procedures to ensure that the processed data reflected in our tools is an accurate reflection of the raw data sources.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Some bachelor's education and/or formal technical training
  • Demonstrated success in a quantitative field such as mathematics, statistics or computer programming
  • Must be willing to work in NYC

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Spreadsheet skills in Excel or Google Sheets including formulas and pivot tables
  • Google Apps experience
  • Solid foundation of a data science programming language or other programming language with data science applications such as R or Python
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and organizational skills
  • Close attention to details
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated persistence and independence in learning technical subject matter, and in solving technical problems.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledge of git or version control systems
  • SQL, NoSQL or other database experience

Interacts with:
  • Data managers, data engineers, product managers, quality assurance engineers
