Start Date: August 2021 (Date TBD)
About Rise Preparatory Academy High School
Rise Prep welcomed its founding 9th grade class in the 2019-20 school year, and will grow to serve 9th-11th graders in the 2021-2022 school year. Rise Prep is a small high school with a focus on preparing students for college or other post-secondary opportunities. Rise Prep offers a challenging, college preparatory curriculum, including English, math, science, history, and foreign language courses. Students will have the opportunity to take honors courses, Advanced Placement courses, and courses for college credit. Students also have the opportunity to participate in elective offerings, extracurricular activities and after school sports.
Because of the small class size, Rise Prep students receive individualized attention and benefit from close relationships with staff. Students and families receive individualized support to plan for post-secondary education and opportunities, including one-on-one assistance with college applications and financial aid applications. Our goal is for 100% of students to graduate high school with a post-secondary plan that supports their life goals. Rise Prep is open to all interested students, with preference given to students currently attending Rise Academy or Van Sickle Academy.

Establish and maintain ongoing relationships with college admissions counselors to host events and arrange and lead college trips
Create a scholarship committee to promote and establish an electronic bank of scholarships
Organize and host informational events related to the college application process - including financial aid (FAFSA) and scholarship opportunities - and preparedness
Prepare supplementary materials to be sent to colleges and ensure school credentials (transcripts and letters of recommendation) get sent to colleges
Pursue appropriate professional development, including attendance at annual conference(s) in the counseling and admissions professionals' organizations
Coordinate with faculty to integrate college-related skills (i.e., essay writing, interviewing, etc.) into regular curricula, and with the Test Prep Coordinator to provide information about testing options and preparatory classes
Qualifications
Appropriate content/program area educator license (School Counselor) and grade level licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education preferred
Experience as an active anti-racist or advocate for equity preferred
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
Bachelor's degree required
If you meet some of the qualifications above, we encourage you to apply or to reach out for more information. Therefore, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other marginalized communities.

About the Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership
While Massachusetts is consistently ranked as one of the top states for education results in the country, we have one of the highest and most persistent opportunity gaps. The Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership (SEZP) - established in 2015 as a collaboration between Springfield Public Schools (SPS), the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), and the Springfield Education Association (SEA) - seeks to improve the longitudinal life outcomes of the more than 5,000 students in our middle and high schools.
As a "zone" of schools within the city of Springfield, SEZP's approach draws on a deep and embedded partnership with the school district and local teachers' union, while harnessing the flexibility and innovation found in autonomous school models. As a result, each school within SEZP is accorded significant school-based autonomies - in curriculum, talent, calendar, schedule, and budget - while being held accountable for realizing achievement gains for historically marginalized students. In all of our work, SEZP is in pursuit of equity and anti-racism - acknowledging the systemic oppression our students and families encounter daily and working to disrupt these provision gaps urgently and courageously.
