    Full-Time Position (1.0 FTE) 215 days

    POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the school principal and following the requirements of the grant, the primary role of this position will be to provide mental health services to help students cope with personal and psychological issues that affect their school performance, behavior and socialization. Through one-on-one, family, small group, classroom, or school-wide sessions, this position will address mental health and wellness concerns on topics relevant to the student population, such as school attendance, trauma related incidents, suicide prevention, bullying, etc. When a student or family needs more robust services, this individual will assist with referrals to community resources that promote wellness and provide support for economic, emotional or physical challenges. This position will collaborate with staff teams as appropriate, and facilitate communication between parents, teachers and administrator(s) to provide a full view of the issues facing an individual student, family or group. Work with families may include engaging in home visits. In addition to provision of direct mental health and family support services, this individual will also be expected to support and inform on-going implementation of school-wide trauma engaged practices.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be:
    • Relevant professional licensure, or receiving supervision and progressing towards licensure.
    • Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology or related field.
    • Must demonstrate knowledge/experience of the effects of trauma and poverty on children, adolescents and families.
    • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding child welfare in school.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Professional licensure in social work, counseling or related fields (LMSW, LCSW, LPC, MFT, Psych).
    • Experience providing adolescent mental health services.
    • Experience in child advocacy and parent outreach in public schools.
    • Familiarity with Transforming Schools: A Framework for Trauma Engaged Practice in Alaska.
    • Training in CBT, Solution Focused Therapy and Family Systems work.

    Compensation: This job class is a 215-day contract position where the employee's assigned work year varies but no less than 215 days in any fiscal year (July 1 - June 30) with an hourly rate of $33.31 DOE. We also offer an excellent benefit package including health, dental, vision and life insurance, Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), and paid sick and vacation days.

    Selected hire will be fingerprinted at applicant's expense and fingerprints forwarded to the Alaska State Troopers and the FBI for a records check.
