Farmington, CT Public Schools Seeking Director of Athletics for 2021-2022 School Year.

The Director of Athletics is responsible for the overall athletic program at the high school.

Qualifications:

  • Candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in education, physical education, or related field.
    Candidate must hold a coaching permit and/or a teaching certificate.
    Candidate may hold an 092 administrative endorsement.
    Candidate must have successfully completed a standard first aid course no earlier than three years prior to the date of application and every three years from the date of the course thereafter, and CPR certification annually.
    Candidate should have successful work experience in physical education, coaching, or sports.  Successful Athletic Director experience preferred.

      various life/work experiences that contribute to the candidate’s overall ability to run a high-calibre athletic program at a leading Connecticut high school.

Salary: $105,000-$115,000 depending upon experience, plus $10,612 Director of Athletics stipend.

Supervisory Responsibilities: The Director of Athletics has the overall responsibility for the high school athletic program and is responsible for the evaluation of coaches and other personnel in that program.

Duties and Responsibilities

Program Administration

  • Evaluates the total athletic program and recommends to the principal the modification, deletion or addition of sports and interscholastic activities.
    Administers the sport health program (e.g. medical exams, medical services at contests, treatment of athletic injuries and related medical health services).
    Sees that the program is balanced by gender and has the best interest of students as its ultimate goal.
    Ensures a safe and healthy environment for all athletic activities and events.
    Organizes and administers the overall program of interscholastic athletics 7-12.
    Coordinates the organization and management of interscholastic athletic schedules and tournaments 7-12.
    Provides leadership in the selection, assignment, orientation, mentorship and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff members.
    Ensures each athletic coach holds a coaching permit issued by the state board.
    Fosters good school-community relationships by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program.
    Hires officials, police and other necessary personnel as required, and assumes with other administrators general responsibilities for the proper supervision of home games.
    Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities at  the local, league and state level.
    Possesses knowledge and understanding of all rules and regulations of the governing authority for interscholastic athletics.
    Assists personnel in the improvements of knowledge and instructional skills by encouraging participation in clinics, workshops, and state meetings.
    Prepares and administers the athletic budget.
    Requisitions program supplies and equipment.
    Arranges field and general practice schedules.
    Implements all policies and rules relating to the athletic program.

Performing Related Responsibilities

  • Provides liaison with CIAC and various leagues and conferences.
    Administers and arranges the athletic transportation program.
    Obtains officials and referees.
    Performs related duties as assigned.
