Description
PURPOSE OF JOB: Assist staff to effectively plan, coordinate and carry out student and parent activities and provide interpretation and translation to enhance the participation of limited English proficient children and families in (Spanish, Burmese, Swahili, or Kinyarwanda).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Support two-way communication by serving as a translator/interpreter for students and parents who speak languages other than English.
Assist in developing plans for parent participation with ongoing communication between home and school.
Translate school-to-home written communications for non-English speaking families.
Translate district and federal policies, guidelines, and practices as needed.
Assist administration in providing information to students, parents and community on family support services provided through the District.
Attend and participate in scheduled professional development.
Maintain documentation of services provided to students and parents.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Written and spoken proficiency in English and other languages (Spanish, Burmese, Swahili or Kinyarwanda)
Proficiency in electronic communication and basic computer skills
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED or international equivalency
Experience working with children and
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Three (3) years successful experience working with children and their parents.
Course work in child development or educational psychology.
Previous volunteer or paid experience translating or interpreting.
Experience with Outlook and MIcrosoft 365, Google suite, etc.
