Salary: $189.00 per day

Teachers must remain in the mode of delivery (seated/virtual) of the original offer accepted. No changes will be allowed. If seeking placement as an Explore Launch Educator position you cannot be under contract with another school district as a summer school employee while trying to or obtaining employment as an Explore Launch Educator with the School District of Springfield R-12.

Purpose Statement

The job of Launch Online Guidance Counselor was established for the purpose/s of providing academic and mental health support to both students participating in virtual courses through Launch. Virtual Learning opportunities are provided through Launch virtual courses, designed and developed by Springfield Public Schools. Launch serves full-time enrollments within the district as well as supplemental per-course opportunities. Launch also provides online course services to the state of Missouri.

Essential Functions

Assists students in the transition from high school to college and career for the purpose of ensuring continuity of services.

Analyzes student transcripts for the purpose of ensuring compliance with graduation requirements

Assists students with developing their Personal Plans of Study for the purpose of supporting them in pursuing their high school and post high school goals. Assists students with applications (e.g. scholarships, college, financial aid, ) for the purpose of ensuring completion of application processes within designated time frames.

Coordinates with teachers, parents, students and in-district or community agencies for the purpose of providing/receiving requested information and/or making recommendations towards meeting the developmental needs of students.

Counsels students, parents, and guardians and teachers for the purpose of enhancing student success and meeting the immediate needs of students. Monitors student progress for the purpose of identifying issues and taking appropriate action for increasing student success.

Reports health and safety issues to administrative personnel and/or appropriate agencies (e.g. fights, suspected child or substance abuse, inappropriate social behaviors, ) for the purpose of maintaining students personal safety, a positive learning environment and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.

Researches program eligibility requirements (e.g. financial aid, college eligibility, ) for the purpose of providing up-to-date, accurate counsel to students.

Monitor student participation in virtual courses to ensure student success.

Responds to a wide variety of inquiries from students, parents, and staff for the purpose of resolving problems, providing information and/or referring to appropriate personnel.

Other Functions

Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Knowledge is required to incorporate appropriate technology; communicate high standards and expectations for each lesson; create an environment conducive to learning; and provide relevant feedback to students.

Skills are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintaining organized records, preparing and maintaining accurate records; applying assessment instruments; and operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications.

Ability is required to gather, collate and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: developing and maintaining positive relationships; setting high expectations for self and others; setting and monitoring progress toward goals; utilizing and offering effective feedback to continuously improve; collaborating and communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders; applying critical thinking/problem solving to improve work processes; adapting to changing work priorities; maintaining confidentiality; exhibiting tact and patience; and working flexible hours.

Terms of Employment

The terms of employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Missouri public school and Board of Education policy, as those laws and policies may change from time to time, and the Teacher Contract. If your position is represented by Collective Bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between SPS and that Collective Bargaining representative.

Missouri Counselor Teaching Certification 7-12, required.

Ability to gain and maintain "Highly Qualified" status as defined by Missouri's Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, required.
