Job Description:
The job of Community Transition Assistant Liaison is established for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for supporting vocational, social, leisure, and ADL experience opportunities for individuals with disabilities by assisting students with pre-employment and employment skills; providing information and/or direction to students; and promoting programs with staff and parents.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Assists teachers and related staff for the purpose of supporting lesson plans and/or developing students' skills in areas which may include vocation, social, leisure, and ADL. (Activities of Daily Living refer to those activities providing the student to be an active member and participant in society. Examples to include liaison will support and assist student in transportation activities such as riding RIPTA, social activities such as field trips to community campus, assisting in utilizing money and making choices in restaurants.Assist in employer and school partners for the purpose of meeting the work education objectives.Assist students in job search skills for the purpose of informing them of employment and career options.Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records for the purpose of documenting activities and/or providing reliable information.Monitors and documents student performance in a variety of tasks including work sites according to program guidelines (e.g. visits job sites, obtains employer evaluations) for the purpose of identifying areas requiring additional training on techniques and methods for maintaining solid work skills.Monitors student's job locations for the purpose of ensuring safety.Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees (e.g. community sponsored events, award ceremonies, career events, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable of program guidelines.Prepares a variety of documents, reports and written materials (e.g. reports, instructions, memos, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to parents and staff, providing written support, developing recommendations and/or conveying information.Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.Supports students in transportation issues in preparing them for testing, interviews, and obtaining proper documentation to meet transition goals.Tutors students in all skills areas (e.g. work requirements, interviewing skills, self-determination, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing their readiness for independence.Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.Must be willing to participate in training and become certified as a job coachMust be willing to participate in de-escalation training.Must attend program specific professional development sessions.Must have reliable transportation and will be reimbursed for mileage.Employee will not be eligible for bus monitoring duties at school.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • College Level Training; preferably in education/vocational fieldExperience in applying and interpreting assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate recordsAbility to read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: safe practices in work sites and other activities; correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; record keeping techniques; modern office practices and procedures; and pertinent federal/state labor laws and/or program requirements.Ability to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job related equipment.Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operates equipment using standardized methods.Ability to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working as part of a team; and meeting deadlines and schedules.Required to work and support students with varying types of disabilities.Must be willing to participate in training and become certified as a job coachMust be willing to participate in de-escalation training.Must attend program specific professional development sessions.

Required Qualifications:
  1. Associate Degree, or 48 College Credits, or a passing score of 461 on the Para Pro Test.A Certificate of Completion of an approved Teacher Assistant Training Program, in addition to one of the above or a Bachelor's Degree that meets RIDE StandardsPass English Proficiency TestAbility to work with children and to be patient, understanding, and effective in meeting their needs.


Salary Rate Range includes Health and Union Benefits
$20.71- $21.64 per hour with Para Pro Test or 48 college credits
$20.82 - $21.75 per hour with Associate's Degree
$20.98 - $21.91 per hour with Bachelor's Degree
