JOB DESCRIPTION
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
The Saint Andre Scholar Program Teacher is appointed by the Principal and serves under the direct supervision of the Director of the Saint Andre Center. The Saint Andre Scholar Program Teacher is responsible for supporting student growth by providing individual and group tutoring, supporting student learning, and assisting students in organizing.
EXPECTATIONS:
- 8 hours per day - 10 months per year; other hours as needed to fulfill accountabilities
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Specific accountabilities shall include, but not be limited to:
- Knowledge of the mission and philosophy of Notre Dame College Prep and support in incorporating and communicating its vision.
- Assist students to acquire independent study habits.
- Reinforce the subject matter taught in the classroom.
- Maintain the standards of discipline determined by the Director of the Saint Andre Scholar Program.
- Carry out the daily class management duties delegated by the Director of Saint Andre Program.
- Work with teachers and parents of Saint Andre Scholar students regarding their progress and possible academic strategies.
- Initiate contact with and tutor students individually and in groups in the Saint Andre Center on content and skill development, supporting the work of classroom teachers.
- Work with students to prepare before quizzes, tests and projects, giving them opportunities to demonstrate their progress.
- Ensure students are well organized and prepared, providing assistance and executive functioning development when necessary.
- Prepare for a wide range of content areas to support student learning and progress in these areas.
- Propose academic and organizational strategies for individual students.
- Communicate with teachers regarding student weaknesses and deficiencies.
- Assist with student organization of supplies and materials.
- Reference and update the long range planning board.
- Take attendance.
- Proctor exams for students with accommodations.
- Continue professional self-development.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bachelor degree in special education or secondary education, excellent communication skills, an energetic and outgoing personality, strong administrative/organizational skills, and familiarity with 1:1 technology, Google Docs, and basic computing are essential.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Master degree in special education or secondary education, experience in special/secondary education, and experience in a Catholic school setting are preferred. Illinois certification is preferred.
Salary and Benefits
This position is paid at a daily or hourly rate to be agreed upon based on experience.
