JOB DESCRIPTION: This employee is responsible for performing highly skilled mechanical repairs to all School Board owned and operated vehicles. Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
1. Repairing, maintaining, and overhauling all gasoline- or diesel-powered equipment owned and operated by the School Board.
2. Maintaining work area in a clean, orderly fashion.
3. Repairing vehicles on the road during breakdown situations.
4. Learning and maintaining skills necessary to operate garage repair and diagnostic equipment.
5. Performing the required monthly inspection of school buses and to report the findings to the shop coordinator.
6. Maintaining assigned service truck in a clean, orderly fashion and maintaining the required level of stock for that truck.
7. Reporting any known unsafe or hazardous mechanical condition that exists on any vehicle to the shop coordinator.
8. Performing other duties as assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Functional literacy. 2. Thorough knowledge of automobile and heavy equipment mechanics. 3. The ability to diagnose trouble and repair the cause. 4. Training or experience as a general mechanic. 5. Able to provide own hand tools. 6. Appropriate valid Florida driver's license for vehicle(s) driven. 7. Demonstrated record of safe driving. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Satisfactory completion of a one-year training program in gasoline and diesel engine maintenance and repair. 2. Experience in maintaining and repairing gasoline and diesel engines.
