Teacher - Art Enrichment Secondary (Part-Time)

General Description

Provides engaging, art enrichment that incorporates the 6C’s of creativity, communication, critical thinking, citizenship, connections and collaboration to self contained students grades 6-12 once a week for 45 minutes at multiple middle and high schools.

Essential Job Functions

  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
  • Plans and delivers appropriate curriculum content to students.
  • Assesses student learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs.
  • Uses a specially designed curriculum of the district to plan daily instructional activities.
  • Maintains order within the classroom setting in accordance with division guidelines regarding student behavior management.
  • Collaborates with other faculty in planning and delivering instruction to students.
  • Communicates regularly with parents.
  • Ensures compliance with existing applicable federal and state statutes and local policies, regulations and guidelines related to public schools.
  • Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.
  • Demonstrates mastery of the content area.
  • Collaborates with the building level administration, building level staff, Special Needs Lead Teachers and district level Art Instructional Specialist in the development and implementation of programs and instructional practices.
  • Assists with the review and identification of quality instructional materials and pedagogical best practices, in the area of visual arts and special needs students.
  • Monitors various forms of documentation and records regarding special needs teaching and student learning.
  • Collects and uses data to make instructional decisions related to curriculum and instruction; monitors and assess curriculum, instruction and program effectiveness, and recommends and implements improvements to curriculum, instruction and program effectiveness based on on-going analysis of data.
  • Attends professional development and training related to Special Needs and Art programs and methodologies, staying abreast of current research.
  • Maintains an inventory of adaptive and other art equipment and materials to support the educational program goals.
  • Adheres to policies and regulations as outlined in federal and state laws and School Board Policies and Procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of the concepts, principles and methodologies of visual art and special education in a public school setting; of current curriculum development, program implementation and planning in art education learning theory, recent research and available state and local resources; child growth and development, group dynamics and related state and federal regulations. Demonstrated ability: to deliver articulate oral presentations and well written communication; to react effectively with parents, students, teachers, administrators and the community; to interpret and apply regulations; to coordinate complex programs and activities; to organize, schedule and work in multiple assigned locations; in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, program management, research ability and planning and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Working skill in the use of technology including word processing, spreadsheet and database software (Microsoft office suite, Canvas and google apps).
Requirements

Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Art. Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in Art. Special Education teaching experience is preferred but not required. Requires extensive training and/or study in the specific special art content area. Must hold a valid Virginia Driver’s license. This position requires regular travel between school facilities. In accordance with Policy 5431, an employee who occupies the position and is assigned a district-owned or leased motor vehicle will be subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to the standards set forth in the policy.
