Qualifications:
  • Holds or is eligible for a New Jersey Certificate with the appropriate endorsement
Reports To: Supervisor of Special Education Services

Supervises: Students

Job Goal: To provide speech services to students as part of their Individual Educational Program.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Must perform all necessary duties as required by the administrative code, state, federal laws and Board policy as a member of the staff and as required by the Child Study Team.
  • Assess and analyze pupil's speech characteristics through the administration of appropriate evaluation instruments.
  • Develop the needed instructional strategies and implements them through individual and group instruction as needed.
  • Participate in the basic Child Study Team as required by the administrative code, state law and Board policy.
  • Acts as an educational consultant to classroom teachers, guidance counselors and administrators, as required.
  • Participates in planning for and providing in-service education.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required by contractual obligations.
  • Maintains an efficient record-keeping system.
  • Performs other duties which may be within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assigned by the administrative staff under the authority of the Board of Education.
  • Act as case manager for speech-only eligible students.
  • Facilitate social skills groups.
  • Assist teachers when dealing with students diagnosed with Autism or Asperger syndrome. This may include, but is not limited to, drafting social stories to help students understand appropriate social interactions within the classroom.
  • Maintain an inventory of assistive technology devices. Seek out professional development opportunities to stay abreast of current AT trends to make appropriate recommendations.

Contract year: September 1 to June 30 (10 Mos.)
