The Opportunity:

The Senior Director of Social-Emotional and Academic Development (SEAD), is responsible for ensuring that all students develop the social and emotional skills they need to succeed in school and life. In collaboration with other academic directors, this leadership role directs and supervises the development, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive approaches to the social, emotional, and academic growth of students. This Senior Director role oversees all social-emotional learning practices and interventions to support students, as well as the social and emotional health and literacy needed for adults across the district. Informed by current research and best practices in the SEAD field, the Senior Director is responsible for developing a SEAD strategic initiative that includes instructional standards, SEL curriculum, alignment of extracurricular and athletic programming, measuring program effectiveness, and facilitating professional development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Partner with other district staff and campus leaders to align SEAD goals to district priorities and ensure a cohesive approach to addressing students’ SEAD and developmental needs.
    • Develop and lead the continuous improvement of an SEAD strategic plan aligned to the district’s vision and best practices from the SEAD field.
    • Progress monitor and improve the implementation of district and school-level social and emotional supports using data
    • Train staff in using data to problem solve and identify interventions to support students.
    • Oversee ongoing professional learning for all school and district staff around SEAD instruction and supports, including but not limited to training on restorative practices, trauma-informed practices, culturally responsive teaching, and mental health.
    • Manage an operational budget to ensure effective allocation of social and emotional resources.
    • Oversee district policies related to social-emotional and academic development.
    • Forge partnerships and trust with other district departments, principals, school teams, and community stakeholders.
    • Work toward greater alignment of the district’s SEAD approach with after-school, athletics, and out-of-school programs.
    • Develop and lead a robust strategic plan for ensuring extra-curriculum programming is the aligned to the Mastery graduate profile.


Qualifications:
    • Demonstrated knowledge of SEAD and school climate research and policies
    • Ability to provide leadership and manage complex projects
    • Experience coaching and/or managing others
    • Experience in developing curriculum and leading professional development
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to collect and analyze data to drive improvement
    • Passion for social-emotional learning as a key lever for improving student outcomes

Education and Experience:
    • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university; MA degree in social work or psychology preferred
    • At least five (5) years of leadership experience in an educational or clinical system with a focus on social, emotional, and behavioral systems


Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required, such as: traveling to network campuses; maneuvering in office spaces (reaching file cabinets, filing, faxing, coping, typing, mailing, and making phone calls); sitting for up to four (4) hours looking at a computer monitor, using a keyboard and mouse and typing.
