Director of Pupil Services (Special Education)

The successful candidate will possess the following characteristics:

• Master's Degree or Doctorate;
• NYS teaching certificate and/or certification in one or more of the pupil support areas, and NYS certification as School District Leader (SDL) or equivalent;
• Strong communication, problem solving, and human relations skills;
• Experience working with various school groups including parents, staff and others;
• Knowledge and experience in the areas of special education, school psychology, school counseling, school social work and related health services;
• Understanding of current regulations pertaining to IDEA and its related fiscal responsibilities;
• Experience with both Committee on Special Education and Pre-School Special Education;
• Experience with Home Schooling and Individualized Home Instruction Plans;
• Experience using technology as both a management and instructional tool;
• Knowledge of ELL, 504 Plans, IEPs, FBAs and BIPs;
• Knowledge of ESSA funding and has experience using the NYSED Business Portal for STAC, PD certification;
• Strong knowledge of Medicaid and other reimbursement calculations;
• Knowledge of organizational structure, goals, objectives;
• Experience observing and evaluating teachers and support staff; and
• Commitment to lifelong learning.
