General Statement of Duties:

Essential Duties:
Henrico County Public Libraries seeks an experienced and highly-motivated Library Manager to oversee one of the five area libraries (Twin Hickory) and associated library branch (Glen Allen) and serve as a key member of our Leadership Team.
Requirements include: Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of library and information science; knowledge of and ability to apply management and supervisory principles and techniques; ability to lead to inspire superior performance from staff; ability to plan and creatively problem solve; considerable knowledge of budgeting and financial recordkeeping; ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with employees and the general public. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to interpret and explain library services, policies, and procedures. Outstanding customer service skills.
This position manages an area library within the vision and mission of the Henrico County Public Library and according to the roles established for area libraries. Responsible for all functions necessary for smooth and successful operation including leadership of cluster staff, thorough knowledge of library collections, Technology, and programming, and HCPL policies and procedures. Works on public service desk. Analyzes data, service, and facility needs and sets goals. Monitors materials, supply, and personnel budgets. Manages building, equipment, and maintenance requests. Conducts effective hiring processes, performance appraisals, and disciplinary actions. Applies County Personnel Policies and Procedures and consults with County Human Resources staff as needed. Refers concerns to Library Administration as appropriate. This position represents HCPL in the community and communicates directly with the public, library staff, administrators, Board Members, Friends of the Library, and county employees from a variety of agencies. Serves on the HCPL Leadership Team. The ideal candidate will be an advocate for excellent customer service and innovative programming and will be aware of current service trends including the maker/creation movement in public libraries.

Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of an American Library Association-accredited master's degree in library science and five (5) years of relevant library work experience, with two (2) years of relevant supervisory experience and a minimum of one (1) year relevant experience managing a library; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
