POSITION TITLE: SENIOR SUPERVISOR FOR HEALTH, PHYSICAL EDUCATION, AND WELLNESS REPORTS TO: ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION

OVER-TIME STATUS: EXEMPT PAY GRADE: 252
JOB SUMMARY:
Performs difficult professional and intermediate administrative work, coordinating, planning and assisting with health, wellness, physical education instructional and athletic programs; does related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Observe classroom instructional lessons in the assigned discipline(s) and provide feedback to teachers and building principals.
• Supervise the health and physical education program in grades PreK-12.
• Assist the building principal in the recruitment and selection recommendations of teachers.
• Develop and oversee curriculum content in health, physical education and wellness for grades PreK-12 and coordinate the assessment and selection of textbooks and materials.
• Serve as liaison between the school division's health advisory committee and food vendors to ensure compliance with the wellness policy.
• Establish partnerships with private businesses, and organizations in the field of health and wellness to foster division support.
• Provide staff development or training for health and physical education teachers and coaches in the areas of health, physical education and athletics.
• Coordinate and participate in the maintenance for athletics, processing of required insurance forms, selection requisitioning, inventory, and repair of equipment and supplies, and preparation of budget. This includes approval of all related purchases.
• Perform related tasks as required.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Thorough knowledge of physical education, health and wellness principles, practices and procedures; thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching; thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations and procedures regarding athletics; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school principals, other staff, students, parents, and the general public; ability to operate a personal computer.

This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects, work requires kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling lifting, fingering, and repetitive motion; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in health and physical education supplemented by a masters degree; and considerable experience as a classroom teacher. Eligible for or in possession of an appropriate Virginia Teaching Certificate.
