Position Summary

The District Office Registered Nurse (RN) will provide health services support to assist the Health Services Manager with daily operations. This position will support school nurses with standardized training, continuous quality improvement, and mandatory compliance requirements with screenings and other health initiatives. The District Office RN will serve as a liaison to APS charter/partner schools and may assist at the school level to promote optimal student health through education, examinations, and guidance. The District Office RN will also provide skilled nursing care and first aid to students, faculty, and staff as needed to include attending health services and interrelated department meetings.

  • Ability to learn and master Student Information Software such as Infinite Campus
  • Ability to supervise school-based LPNs and provide leadership support as required

Essential Duties
  • Conducts school nurse standardized trainings and mandatory school health screenings
  • Serves as a preceptor to nursing students, consults with partners, vendors as needed
  • Identifies, monitors, and manages students with chronic disease and disabilities
  • Documents services provided in accordance with orders and care plan
  • Maintains communicable disease reports and case management programs and procedures and implements outbreak prevention/control through education, consultation, and guidance
  • Conducts health care assessments and screenings for students and staff, including vision, hearing, dental, scoliosis, and nutritional assessments
  • Provides counseling and guidance to students, parents, and staff regarding health-related concerns
  • Maintains thorough and comprehensive health-related reports, monthly reports, and emergency reports ensuring compliance with guidelines, policies, and regulations
  • Supports school nurses by providing health education at a district level for students, families, and school personnel on growth and development, home nursing instruction, first aid, and disease management
  • Orients, supports, and trains School Nurse Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and newly hired School Nurses
  • Attends 504 and IEP meetings when needed to support schools and provide medical expertise
  • Maintains required certifications and licenses
  • Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator
  • Required to have prompt and regular attendance for scheduled shifts during regular business hours as mandated

Requirements :

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from an accredited School of Nursing, or
  • Associate of Science in Nursing Degree from an accredited School of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science degree in a related field

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
  • Unrestricted Registered Nurse Licensed in the State of Georgia
  • CPR Certification

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Experience as a school nurse or public health nurse is required

Compensation :

Salary Grade: 130

Salary Range: Non-Teacher Salary Schedules (Grade 111-142)

Work Days: 202
