The Manager of Specialized Instruction and Behavioral Health Services will lead the efforts to scale the pilot work and develop the strategy with supporting analysis to enhance Social and Emotional Health across all schools. They will build capacity throughout the Providence Public School District to ensure that families, students, teachers and school staff receive relevant training, instruction, and/or supports to develop competencies impacting students' mental health in order to achieve and sustain success in school, work, and life. The Manager of Specialized Instruction and Behavioral Health Services will collaborate with the Director of Student Supports and Services to help ensure that all PPSD students graduate ready for college and career by building resiliency, developing prosocial behavior, and taking part in positive experiences beyond the classroom during their time in Providence schools.

The Manager of Specialized Instruction and Behavioral Health Services will partner with key school staff - including principals, social workers, psychologists, counselors, and teachers - families, and external partners to address mental health, emotional, behavioral, and social challenges by developing and establishing behavior support systems and social-emotional learning programming, and will enhance and monitor school cultures and climates. In addition, the Manager of Specialized Instruction and Behavioral Health Services will manage any performance-based contracts and vendors who partner with the District on coordination of care in support of Social Emotional Health.

Roles & Responsibilities

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.   • Support the Director of Student Support Services to develop a strategy for scaling pilot work on SEL to all schools in the District.Manage the RFP process and all performance-based contracts and vendors who partner with the District on coordination of care in support of Social Emotional Health.Under the leadership of the Director of Student Supports and Services, support the identification of nationally recognized and research-based opportunities to identify new initiatives and programs for the District.Create, analyze and monitor social/emotional data to improve student learning and outcomes.Analyze and monitor progress to ensure high quality implementation of a SHE and SEL strategy and the efficacy of the delivery of services.Promote the integration of social/emotional and behavioral learning throughout all district settings.Coordinate services and programming with, and serve as liaison to, outside agencies working within our schools to support social/emotional learning and programming.Conduct and/or coordinate workshops, trainings, and in-service presentations on social/emotional behavioral learning and classroom management techniques, as well as other related topics for the purpose of developing school-wide plans and educator skills to improve student outcomes.Assist in developing procedures and training materials for district staff involved with students with challenging behaviors, including improving the referral process to outside partners, in order to enhance services for students and families.Plan and confer with schools and external partners concerning behavioral, social, or emotional programs and services and provide and/or coordinate trainings as appropriate.Provide and/or coordinate training for counselors, psychologists, and social workers in social/emotional development.Provide and/or coordinate programming in the areas of behavior management skills and affective education for counselors, psychologists, and social workers.Assist with the development of crisis prevention plans and support schools in the event of a crisis.Collaborate with each network Culture and Equity Specialists and other district administration to develop Culturally Responsive Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) and social/emotional teams to support students and families.Other duties as assigned.

Salary Rate Range
$103,625 - $111,143

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution.Master's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, education, or a closely related field with an emphasis in behavioral learning.At least five (5) years of experience working with students with behavior-related issues.Ability to collaborate effectively with other offices, school staff, parents, and community members.Demonstrated ability to facilitate group processes, build consensus and resolve conflict.Strong written and oral communication skills, including successful experience presenting to large groups.Must have the knowledge and skills to build positive relationships with people from diverse populationsCommitment to the mission and vision of PPSD and the relevance of job functions to that mission and visionExperience in working diverse populations and urban youth.Experience with community organizations and mental health agencies.Evidence of experience and participation in professional development that supports the behavior development and school-wide social/emotional programming.Experience developing a vision and strategy for working with vendors, partners and other stakeholders to build capacity across schoolsExperience in providing technical assistance and professional development to teachers and administrators on social/emotional learning, functional behavior analyses, and behavior intervention plans.Ability to analyze behavior, collaborates with adults, and develops positive relationships with students.Possess skills in data collection, development of effective behavior intervention plans, and implementation of positive behavior interventions and supports.Possess competency in PBIS.Comprehensive knowledge, understanding of and commitment to social and emotional learning standards.Must be confidentialMust possess and consistently model excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and the ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced and demanding environment.You must complete the new hire compliance training prior to your first day of employmentBilingual PreferredSelected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
