This is a full-time 1 FTE/8 hours per day position working on the CL-12 (12 months per school year) schedule.

This position will be physically present at the worksite, and will be required to follow all public health protocols.

The purpose of this position is to maintain and repair refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, heating, pneumatic, and kitchen appliance mechanical equipment and associated electrical circuitry. This position also maintains and repairs low voltage electronic temperature control systems throughout the district.

Essential Functions:
  1. Inspect, diagnose, and repair refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, heating, pneumatic and kitchen appliance mechanical equipment and associated electrical circuitry.
  2. Test and measure pressure, temperature, airflow, electrical voltages, amp draws and ohm readings, refrigerant leaks, fan motor rpm's, and refrigeration compressor oil levels to determine source of malfunction.
  3. Operates recovery tanks and vacuum pumps relevant to adding and evacuating air conditioning refrigerant.
  4. Monitor and modify building temperatures for comfort and efficiency by using computer based heating and cooling monitoring and reprogramming.
  5. Repair and/or or replace electrical, and electronic equipment to maintain temperature comfort levels at minimum energy costs.
  6. Maintain equipment and supply inventories; keep records of maintenance schedules, work performed, and supplies used.
  7. Prioritize and schedule work according to nature and severity of problem.
  8. Provide estimates of repair costs.
  9. Remain informed on technological developments, industry advancements, trade qualifications, and refined application techniques.
  10. May be called upon to direct the work of HVAC temporary personnel.
  11. Travel to and from building sites and district facilities building as needed.
  12. Maintains regular and prompt attendance.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  1. Journey level knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, pneumatic, kitchen appliance equipment and computer based electronic temperature control systems.
  2. Ability to operate tools such as electrical testing instruments, air flow meters, power and hand tools, pressure gauge manifolds, refrigerant leak detectors, and oxy-acetylene and arc welding equipment.
  3. Ability to read and understand diagrams and repair manuals, and to convey technical specifications orally and in writing.
  4. Ability to apply safety practices in equipment use and service.
  5. Ability to oversee and direct the work of seasonal and temporary workers
Work Environment and Physical Demands

1. 12 month work year (July 1- June 30); eight (8) hours per day; occasional overtime may
be required.
2. May be required to perform emergency repairs such as power outages and other system
failures, during evening or weekend hours.
3. Work is performed in office settings, schools, industrial building areas, indoors and
outdoors on various district properties and in varying weather conditions.
4. Work is subject to hazards including: proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving
vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and/or high places, exposure to high
heat, confined space, elevations greater than 4' above adjacent surfaces and chemicals.
5. The employee is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following
conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists,
gases, or poor ventilation. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respiratory
protection may be required to do work in certain conditions. Use of respiratory protection
PPE may require any facial hair to be compatible with equipment provided.
6. Work often requires moving heavy objects weighing between 25 to 75 pounds. The
employee must be able to frequently traverse short and long distances on various types'
surfaces in various weather conditions to accomplish tasks, ascending or descending
ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and other aerial equipment.
7. Employees must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time
and be able to position and reposition oneself in restricted spaces, including crawl
spaces, narrow aisles, passage ways and small rooms.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Three years of journey level experience in HVAC and refrigeration repair.
  • Possession of a valid State of Oregon driver's license.
  • Possession of a valid EPA approved Refrigerant license.
  • Possession of a valid State of Oregon issued Limited Energy Technician (LEB) license.
