Purpose: To independently oversee the primary functions of the school library including student supervision and the circulation, organization, maintenance, and fee collection of library materials. Support students and staff in the use of print and digital media. Bilingual Spanish speaking desired.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Exercises independent judgment to manage library/media or textbook resource centers' daily operations, technical services, collection development, budget, and programs in a manner consistent with administrative direction, district policies and procedures, and goals of the instructional program.Assist all students and staff in the library and use of library materials and technology.Independently manages students in small groups or entire classes.Coordinates and trains community volunteers and student assistants in library tasks.Trains and assists staff and students in literature, information literacy, resources and technology applications in a manner that encourages independent learning and personal growth.Within specialized area of assignment, exercises independent judgment to resolve issues and respond to requests for assistance and materials.Provides for an organized library media center by processing, circulating, inventorying, maintaining and shelving materials and resources.Assures an orderly and organized flow of materials by utilizing the computerized library circulation system to manage patron accounts, overdue and lost items.Repairs library/media books, textbooks and other materials.Provides standard first aid, in a competent and compassionate manner.Provides other related services as assigned.

  • An associate's (or higher) degree, two years post-secondary study (72 quarter or 48 semester credits), or a passing score on a district approved assessment.Knowledge and experience in library/media programs and functions.Ability to understand the building/program's instructional goals and carry out work assignments in a manner that supports those goals.Mastery of library and office systems equipment, multimedia, and technology.Ability to diagnose and problem-solve software and equipment difficulties.Ability to formulate ideas for program improvement.Ability to understand and implement the school/program's student discipline policy.Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.Ability to independently plan, organize, and carry out work assignments, and to plan and direct the work of volunteers and student assistants.Ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with individuals and groups of all ages, and to manage student behavior.Ability to travel among district facilities as needed; if driving, the ability to meet district driving standards.Standard First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within two months of hire, may be required.
