GENERAL PURPOSE

Responsible for providing support to the Library Media Specialist with specific responsibilities for performing clerical functions related to supporting the instructional program, which includes, but is not limited to collection, processing, circulation, maintenance, and inventory of library materials and/or textbooks, documenting losses and monitoring procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assist teachers, students, and administrators by identifying resource materials for use in classroom and/or class assignments.

Maintain materials ensuring availability of materials in good condition when required.

Monitor student activities within the library maintaining a safe environment conducive to learning.

Perform circulation activities controlling the use, location, and availability of items in the collection.

Process library books, periodicals, software, and related media materials providing students and staff with required materials.

Repair books and materials ensuring the availability of books and library materials.

Respond to inquiries of students, staff, and parents providing information and/or direction as required.

Ability to communicate effectively with staff, parents, students, and patrons of the district.

Proficient in the operation of office equipment.

Perform other related duties as required/assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or its equivalent.

Minimum of two (2) years of job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements

Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.

Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include library practices, terminology and procedures; age appropriate literature; computer and Internet operations; and concepts of grammar and punctuation.

Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.

Skill based competencies required to perform the functions of the job, including operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

Ability to analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.

The work is medium work that requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.

Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: crouching, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
