Canyon Rim Academy is seeking a leader to fill the role of Principal beginning academic school year 2021-22.  The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work in a unique environment where he/she will develop and lead the school’s shared mission and vision, play a key role in engaging stakeholders, including students, staff, parents/caregivers and community members, and create a school environment that empowers students to achieve ambitious learning goals and healthy social integration.

School Background

Canyon Rim Academy (CRA) is a K-6 public charter school located on the east bench of Salt Lake County focused on providing a positive learning environment for approximately 525 students.   The Mission of CRA is to cultivate a school environment centered on each student achieving their maximum academic, social, and emotional potential while embracing the Core Values: Learning, Respect, Safety, Love, Peace, and Joy. 

Opened in the Fall of 2007, Canyon Rim Academy is dedicated to a vision of promoting the learning, achievement, development, and well-being of each student.  We provide a learning environment that is student-centered and honors the whole child.  With high expectations, students experience and achieve personal success through a well-rounded education that includes language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, art, and music.  Collaboration, cooperation, and integration are paramount.  Students will use a variety of high-level thinking skills as they discover concepts in all subject areas utilizing effective integration of the Utah State Core Curriculum and the Core Knowledge Sequence, based on the research process developed by the nonprofit Core Knowledge Foundation and Dr. E.D. Hirsh Jr.

Qualifications

Candidates must demonstrate leadership qualities and the personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with students, teachers, staff parents, and other community stakeholders.  The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • ·         Master’s degree in Education Administration and Utah Administrator’s Endorsement
  • ·         Three years of successful administrative experience is preferred
  • ·         Five years successful teaching experience is preferred
  • ·         Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with faculty, staff, parents, and students
  • ·         Experience managing and monitoring goals and outcomes
  • ·         Fosters a climate of innovation and growth
  • ·         Ability to facilitate activities to encourage community support and shared purpose
  • ·         Desire to build a learning organization and create a collegial and collaborative relationship with            and among Faculty and Staff

Job Responsibilities

·          Develop and maintain an appropriate educational climate that ensures each child’s needs are being met and students are progressing towards proficiency in the State Core Standards

  • ·         Maintain school attendance and discipline programs
  • ·         Skillfully demonstrate flexibility, problem solving and conflict resolution
  • ·         Effectively plan, schedule, and allocate resources
  • ·         Oversee the staffing, training, and accountability of approximately 23 full-time teachers and a                contingency of part-time staff
  • ·         Provide instructional leadership
  • ·         Ensure professional development opportunities are provided
  • ·        Give appropriate and timely feedback to employees and develop a consistent performance                    evaluation program for the development of teachers and staff
  • ·         Implement and enforce school policies
  • ·         Maintain a professional working relationship with the school Board of Trustees
