McKinney-Vento Communication Analyst - Social Work Services

General Description

Under general direction performs complex work in coordinating transportation services for CCPS students experiencing homelessness in accordance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015. Provides support and technical assistance to the McKinney-Vento Support Specialist, CCPS Department of Social Work Services, Department of Pupil Transportation, schools and families by communicating with all departments and families regarding new transportation requests and routes when students are attending schools outside of their attendance zones and monitors continuing need for services. Coordinates with McKinney-Vento Support Specialist to identify alternative transportation services when CCPS routes cannot be provided. Complex work is performed within specific goals of the Title I and McKinney-Vento grant requirements. Contacts are made at all organizational levels within and outside the department to support the implementation of McKinney-Vento policies and procedures. Considerable professional judgment is required.
Essential Job Functions

  • Serves as primary communication liaison between families, schools, transportation department, and McKinney-Vento office regarding needs of McKinney-Vento students.
  • Monitors the identification, development, and evaluation of CCPS specialized bus routes for McKinney-Vento students enrolled in CCPS schools.
  • Reviews established routes on a regular basis to identify the need to revise or terminate services.
  • Maintains regular contact with McKinney-Vento Support Specialist, School Social Workers, School Administration, and families to monitor and identify residency changes to ensure continuation of services.
  • Coordinates notification of bus routes, pick up times and locations to bus drivers, families, schools, and staff.
  • Serves as primary point of contact for families and private service providers regarding special transportation of McKinney-Vento students
  • Maintains frequent communication with parents of McKinney-Vento students to check on transportation arrangements or any additional needs.
  • Develops and coordinates annual and refresher training for Department of Pupil Transportation Area Coordinators and other employees providing services to students experiencing homelessness, in collaboration with the McKinney-Vento Support Specialist and supervisors.
  • Recommends and implements process improvements based on ongoing analysis of current procedures.
  • Serves as professional resource and support person for Pupil Transportation, school administrators, school counselors, school social workers, community partners and families.
  • Assists the McKinney-Vento Specialist, Director of Pupil Transportation, and Title I Coordinator in data gathering and analysis for periodic reporting, including wait time for transportation
  • Participates in program monitoring and compliance reviews.
  • Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.
  • Works with the McKinney-Vento Support Specialist to ensure that transportation to the school of origin is provided without delay
  • Maintains accurate and thorough documentation of transportation services provided to eligible students.

Qualifications

Some knowledge of the legislative requirements and practical needs of students who are homeless. Some knowledge of school organization, and available federal, state, and community resources to support families and schools serving McKinney-Vento students. Some knowledge of automated bus routing systems, Google applications (Gmail, Google docs, Google sheets, etc. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and follow oral and written instructions. Demonstrated ability to work well with staff, parents and community in a professional manner.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field with five years experience working with at-risk youth and families as a social worker, counselor, or school counselor.
