    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    The Director of Early Childhood Education will provide instructional leadership and support to principals, teachers in grades Pre-K - Grade 2 to ensure that every student has access to high-quality early childhood options that prepare children for success in school and life. Together with schools and families, the Director of Early Childhood ensures that children are engaged, nurtured and supported with the tools needed to develop independent learners and creative problem solvers.

    RESPONSIBILITIES :
    • Advise and collaborate on the expansion of early childhood programs at the district level
    • Provide expertise regarding Birth through Grade 2 vertical and horizontal alignment, developmentally appropriate practice and various early childhood curriculum models
    • Collaborate with curriculum directors to provide academic support for students in PreK through Grade 2
    • Develop and manage early childhood initiatives and programs in conjunction with other central offices
    • Develop and implement methods to measure the effectiveness of implemented programs, using data gathered to improve program quality
    • Ensure the dissemination of relevant information and materials regarding professional learning current research, program mandates and innovative program practices on early childhood education
    • Lead the development and implementation of differentiated professional learning planning for program personnel in conjunction with principals and school staff
    • Advise and develop recommendations regarding early childhood education policy and strategy for the Superintendent's office and the Board of Education
    • Develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with appropriate City and State agencies and other central offices for the development and coordination of professional learning opportunities in early childhood education
    • Maintain positive and productive relationships with teachers, administration, support staff, parents and community partners
    • Serve as a resource for district, school, program-based personnel, families and community groups concerning early childhood education initiatives
    • Participate in evening and weekend events as needed
    • Assume responsibility for his/her own professional growth and development through professional learning activities, membership and participation in professional organizations, reading professional journals and other publications and through attendance at workshops, meetings and conferences
    • Implement and enforce School District policies and procedures
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer and/or Superintendent of Schools

    QUALIFICATIONS :
    • Must hold or be eligible for Connecticut State Department of Education Certification Endorsement 092
    • A Master's degree in education or related field
    • A minimum of Five (5) years of relevant experience
    • Knowledge of best practices in early childhood (birth - Grade 2) curriculum models and assessments
    • Ability to assess instructional program quality, using the outcomes of assessments to assist programs in developing quality improvement goals and strategies, and to assist programs in achieving these goals
    • Strong program/project management skills, with the ability to plan organize, develop and lead the implementation of instructional programs and large-scale projects on a school/district-wide basis
    • Use strong interpersonal skills to create collaborative and collegial relationships with teachers and school leaders
    • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to prepare written documents and make oral presentations clearly and concisely
    • Ability to speak Spanish preferred

    Days: Monday Friday
    Work Year: 12 Months (260 Days)
    Salary: Per NASA Agreement
