    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    Supports school leaders in refining their instructional lens and in calibration within the educator evaluation process. Provides leadership and support to enable leaders to meet district expectations for the effective implementation of Common Core Learning Standards. Informs the superintendent's initiatives to develop and refine systems, research tools and program policies. The Director of School Quality has, or is eligible for, certification as an Intermediate Administrator (CSDE Endorsement 092).

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Collaborates with school leaders to build the leaders' capacity to:
      • assess instructional needs within the school
      • identify instructional practices that support diverse learning needs
      • calibrate instructional observations of teacher performance
      • craft feedback that results in improved teaching and learning
      • use assessment instruments to inform instruction and professional development
      • provide leadership to instructional data teams, helping them to develop their skills in assessing academic needs and targeting interventions designed to improve academic outcomes
      • enhance the leaders' skills at leading school-wide data teams
    • Contributes to the development and implementation of research-based academic intervention programs consistent with school district goals and objectives
    • Defines and fosters the leadership qualities that lead to school-wide improvement that is tied to student growth and development
    • Provides training to administrators in differentiating support for diverse teacher-learners
    • Provides support to school leaders in using research-based methods to track interventions for students who are struggling
    • Provides support to school leaders in supporting the enrichment needs of students who excel academically
    • Provides training and other support to leaders in supervising the delivery of instruction for students in school as well as for those utilizing distance learning
    • Maintains a focus on school leaders' practices that lead to closing the opportunity gap and lead to more equitable practices
    • Develops school quality reports to support schools in areas of development, by identifying areas for growth for the school organization, as well as for the school leadership

    Other Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Works with the district's academic and technology directors, to remain current with the district's current and future initiatives
    • Using data from the district's education evaluation platform, identifies patterns of instructional strengths and deficits, using the data to inform professional development at the district and school levels
    • Identifies district instructional practice that can be utilized in schools across the district

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy
    • Positive experience with distance learning is required
    • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans
    • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education
    • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
    • Demonstrated commitment to issues of diversity and multicultural curriculum
    • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth
    • Bilingual candidates preferred
    • Skilled use of computer and printer
    • Skilled use of distance learning technology (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.)

    Required Qualifications:
    • Must hold or be eligible for Connecticut State Department of Education Certification Endorsement 092
    • A minimum of five successful years of teaching and leadership experience at the elementary or secondary level.
    • Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Norwalk Board of Education may find appropriate

    Evaluation:

    Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions set forth by the Norwalk Board of Education

    Days: Monday Friday
    Work Year: 12 Months (260 Days)
    Salary: Per NASA Agreement
