    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    The primary function of the registered nurse is to work in collaboration with the Certified School Nurse and Non-Certified School Nurse to service the health needs of the school site, relative to both personal attention and in-service training. In addition to requirements below, regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Must be a professional registered nurse within the State of Illinois
    • Willingness to become an Illinois Certified School Nurse
    • Nursing Experience

    KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

    Knowledge of :
    • Nursing assessment, communication, and mediation skills
    • Local and state community agencies and resources in regards to medical care for children
    • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

    Ability to:
    • Communicate effectively verbally and written
    • Promote a positive, caring climate
    • Maintain confidentiality of privileged and/or sensitive information.
    • Interpret policy, procedures, and data
    • Implement a plan of care and administer medication to students

    • Maintain safe and effective nursing care rendered directly or through delegation

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Essential Job Functions)
  • Administers medication to students in compliance with the state and board policies.
  • Performs special procedures on students as ordered by the physician in accordance with standard school nurse medical practice.
  • Maintains a daily log of student visits to the health office and makes appropriate documentation on individual health records and in skyward.
  • Responsible for student health assessments and delivery of first aid in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the accuracy of data entry in regards to immunization dates, health examination, and medical condition codes.
  • Assists the Certified and Non-Certified School Nurses with maintaining and using cumulative health records for all students.
  • Assists the Certified and Non-Certified School Nurses to maintain lines of communication with teachers and other school personnel in order that cooperative action will meet the needs of pupils.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all school related issues.
  • Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Completes end of the year reports and file with the state.
  • Reviews medical records and assists in school immunization compliance monitoring.
  • Observes the school environment for safety hazards and sanitary conditions and reports to responsible persons.
  • Coordinates supplemental student health services from local community health care providers.
  • Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned
  • Schedules and ensures that all school staff receive necessary health trainings (diabetic, First Aid etc,)


  • WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust and temperature. Frequent interruptions throughout the day. May be exposed to stressful situations. Maintain effective critical thinking skills needed for making observations, reading and writing, communicating with others Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include frequent standing, sitting, walking, occasionally required to lift up to 50 lbs.
