SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under the general direction of the Director of Signature Academies & Career Technical Education, the AVID Facilitator works with a high-performing team and serves as the WCSD expert on AVID implementation and integration into school-wide academic systems, including the Nevada Academic Content Standards (NVACS), strategies and pedagogy. The Facilitator supports, models, and provides professional learning in research-based strategies to ensure high quality AVID implementation, as well as development, articulation, and implementation of curricular tools to support student learning. The Facilitator manages projects that assist in shifting teacher practice to better understand critical pedagogy, the expectations of the NVACS and connections with the AVID program, and the need for change based on student evidence through facilitation, observations, co-learning and reflective conversations. The Facilitator serves as an advocate for and AVID within the development and deployment of courses and initiatives.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborates with Curriculum & Instruction Program Coordinators on AVID subject matter in the implementation of the AVID program and NVACS support;
  • Develops strong relationships with all AVID schools, assuming an advocacy position for program growth and success based on teacher, administrator and counselor capacity building and student performance;
  • Coordinates the development / review of curricular tools to support instruction;
  • Develops a strong and current knowledge base in curriculum, effective instructional strategies, assessment techniques (including the analysis of student test data), standards, and content. Provides information to teachers and principals as needed in these areas;
  • Facilitates a variety of professional learning opportunities designed to increase the knowledge of the NVACS and research-based instructional practices;
  • Plans and participates in instructional planning and development sessions with AVID elective teachers to assure and sustain high quality, rigorous and engaging courses for students;
  • Assists AVID schools with data analysis and the development of action plans in response to the data;
  • Utilizes technology to assist with individual coaching sessions and data collection and reporting;
  • Develops plans for implementation of AVID strategies across all content areas / courses that take into account individual school initiatives;
  • Organizes training for AVID teachers and provides ongoing support
  • Coordinates partnership with the AVID program and support community.
  • Supports teachers in their learning and application of new knowledge and instructional practices in relation to the AVID program;
  • Models best practices for teachers through classroom demonstrations;
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, district, and AVID policies, rules and regulations; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
  • Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in education;

  • AND
  • Three (3) years of successful classroom teaching or coaching/facilitation/leadership experience in the AVID program.

  • Knowledge of : The Nevada Academic Content Standards (NVACS); professional learning standards; current research on best practices for improving achievement; adult learning theory; formative assessment processes; AVID program model

    Skill at: Group facilitation and interpersonal communication both oral and written; teaching adults, including effective collaboration; and organizational skills and the ability to design and implement effective professional development experiences in individual and group settings.

    Communication and collaborating with groups and individuals; communicating effectively orally and in writing; evaluating, assessing and revising programs; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; ability to innovate and conceptualize new programs; and excellent time management skills

    Licenses/Certificates: Possession of or ability to obtain, a valid State of Nevada driver license with a driving record acceptable to the District; possession of a valid Nevada teaching certificate.

    Additional Job Information :
    This is a One Year Only position ending June 2021.

    The Washoe County School District pays an additional legislatively-designated amount to the Public Employees Retirement System on behalf of the employee for retirement benefits. No retirement contribution is made by the employee.

    New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.

    Please be advised there is a 90-day waiting period for insurance benefits. Benefits are paid by employees at a prorated percent for those working less than full time.
