Summary: The English Language Learner (ELL) Coordinator oversees the ELL program for Nevada Virtual Academy Online School.

Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.
  • Oversees ELL program for all grade levels and assigns Limited English Proficient (LEP) students to a certified English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher for support;
  • Researches, assesses, and tracks incoming students that are possibly LEP using Home Language Survey (HLS) questions and answers;
  • Maintains and continually updates ELL Records and important documentation online in both student information systems and in educational portfolios
  • Notifies all LEP parents of ELL required testing throughout the year (ACCESS, ELPAS, Oral Language Assessments, etc.);
  • Works on ELL program improvements throughout the year; Prepares reports regarding ELL program for administration and other staff as needed;
  • Assists the district and campus testing coordinator with testing WIDA, MAP, State Testing SBAC, ACT, EOC
  • Ensures anyone administering Online Screener and WIDA Access 2.0 have current WIDA Certifications
  • Works with district and campus testing coordinator to plan and train for WIDA Access 2.0 or ELPA testing dates and testing protocol;
  • Prepares and Administers WIDA Assessments Online Screener and Access 2.0 to all LEP students; Serves as WIDA testing coordinator on the actual dates of online reading testing for WIDA and oversees remote testing
  • Maintains updated English Language Individual Learning Plans and Accommodations, ensures appropriate staff has knowledge of LEP students’ plans and accommodations
  • Teaches ESL Class Connects (CC) or provides ESL support where needed; Creates and maintains ESL CC lessons;
  • Provide continual staff support for Professional Development and information with instructional strategies, best practices for academic language development
  • Assists with validation of annual EL state reporting

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree AND
  • Three (3) years of ESL experience OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Be able to commute to the NVVA Office located in Las Vegas NV

Certificates and Licenses: Valid NV ESL Teaching Certification

Other Required Qualifications:
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Professional experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Ability to clear required background check
