BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Level II:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. High school diploma or general education (GED) is desirable; four years of electronic experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of television, fire alarm, security, public address, and communications systems; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities. Considerable knowledge of the operation of electronic systems, listed above. Considerable knowledge of the methods, tools, materials, and practices of the electronics/electrical trade. Considerable knowledge of electronics and electrical theory. Ability to use computer for fire alarm, intercom diagnostics, e-mail, time and leave entry. Ability to use computer for fire alarm/intercom diagnostics, communications, time & leave entry, etc. Ability to read, write, and work from blueprints, schematics, and specifications. Ability to maintain adequate records of all work performed. Skill in the use of hand tools, testing equipment, and materials. Ability to comply with all safety rules and regulations relating to the field of electronics. Ability to troubleshoot and skill in the diagnosis and repair of problems relating to the operation of television, fire alarm, security, public address, and communications systems.

Must possess a valid driver's license and, if necessary, a commercial driver's license.

Must possess a valid VA journeyman's certification in electrical or degree in electronics or valid Nicet level 2 certification.

Ability to maintain adequate records of all work performed. Skill in the use of hand tools, testing equipment, and materials. Ability to comply with all safety rules and regulations relating to the field of electronics. Ability to perform maintenance and repairs, tasks, and adjustments.

Must possess a valid driver's license and, if necessary, a commercial driver's license.

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:

This is skilled journey-level work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electronics equipment and electrical systems within the Prince William County School System. This work is performed under the general supervision of the crew chief and shop foreman.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk or electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

DIMENSIONS:

Level II:

Grade 8, 7.5 hours/day

Level I:

Grade 6, 7.5 hours/day

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:

Include, but are not limited to the following: Performs skilled electronics/electrical work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all electronic/electrical systems. Responds to emergency duty assignments when required by supervisor. Installs, repairs, and maintains intercoms, public address systems, MATV, fire alarm, security and other related electronic systems. Develops and conveys drawings modifications for construction or equipment changes to be incorporated into "as-built" drawings by the maintenance drafting shop. Leads or instructs lower skill level employees as delegated. Maintains shop inventory records and daily logs. Performs preventive maintenance on electronic equipment as required. Attends classes to continuously improve knowledge. Performs other duties as assigned.

SALARY:
Level II Hiring Range:$42,768 - $58,566/year ($22.81 - $31.24/hr) Level I Hiring Range: $35,832 - $49,074/year ($19.11 - $26.17/hr) Level I Hiring Range:

FULL TIME/PART TIME: Full Time
