General Description

Performs skilled work in the installation, repair and maintenance of audio-visual, basic digital video, audio media, sound systems, intercom, auditorium and performing lighting system, scoreboards and related or similar equipment. Work is performed under general supervision without specific instructions. Receives daily work orders from team leader or supervisor.

Essential Job Functions

  • Installs, repairs and maintains various types of audio-visual equipment, including: video displays, recording devices, laminators and digital audio and video circuitry, sound systems, auditorium & performing lighting systems, scoreboards and related or similar equipment.
  • Inspects and performs preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment; cleans and services equipment in the summer.
  • Assists building staff with instructions in the proper setup and operation of equipment.
  • Assists during various media presentations to ensure the proper operation of sound and visual systems, microphones and cables.
  • Works with other maintenance staff, school officials and staff to resolve maintenance problems.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of the installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of audio-visual and basic visual equipment associated with AV repair. Demonstrated ability to read wiring diagrams and follow installation and operation manuals and to work safely and efficiently with various types of equipment and tools.Demonstrated ability to work independently and assume responsibility for repair of assigned equipment without direct supervision; to prioritize work schedules; to investigate, identify and correct problems in assigned work areas; to work effectively with other maintenance workers, staff and the public and to follow oral and written instructions. Basic computer and keyboarding skills.Any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid VA driver’s license required.

In accordance with Policy 5431, an employee who occupies the position and is assigned a district-owned or leased motor vehicle will be subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to the standards set forth in the policy.
