Department Description:

Under the supervision of the Project Management Supervisor, the Assistant Project Manager will coordinate and monitor small scale renovation and building service projects which utilize Capital Improvement Program (CIP) funding. The incumbent of this position will serve as the liaison between Building Services and Capital Programs, coordinating and monitoring capital project activities; including capital planning, prioritization, budgeting, and coordinating and monitoring Building Services' capital projects to existing facilities. The Assistant Project Manager shall maintain financial records, and prepare, analyze and reconcile budgets for capital funding for assigned projects. The incumbent will collaborate with Building Services on prioritizing and planning capital projects for future Capital Improvement Program submissions.

Salary Range: $59,717 - $111,659

Detailed Description:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Works closely with Building Services and Capital Programs to coordinate various aspects of project management for assigned projects;
  • Creates and maintains thorough and accurate project files; provides periodic reports of project status and responses to requests for information as required;
  • Assists in the coordination and monitoring of project activities to ensure projects progress on schedule and within the prescribed budget; oversees assigned projects to ensure that the integrity of the plan is executed;
  • Reviews purchase orders and expenditures for assigned projects and reports on the status and validity of such expenditures; prepares responses to budget requests for information;
  • Collaborates with Building Services and Capital Programs personnel to prioritize and plan future capital improvement projects;
  • Assists in circumventing and/or resolving issues through proactive monitoring and risk mitigation;
  • Confers with personnel from the various departments within the school system to meet current objectives and requirements; provides technical assistance to project team members;
  • Attends construction progress meetings and other meetings as required; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Familiarity with state and county requirements and regulations, as well as requirements relevant to capital projects;
  • Experience with collaborating with project team members; ability to work efficiently and effectively with a variety of stakeholders;
  • Ability to monitor progress and provide reports relative to construction and renovation projects; ability to plan, implement and evaluate projects;
  • Well-organized, detail oriented and attention to accuracy;
  • Ability to initiate correspondence and prepare professional reports;
  • Ability to develop effective work standards and schedules;
  • Strong written, verbal and computer communications; and
  • Effective problem identification, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, construction management, business administration, or a related field preferred. A minimum of two (2) years of experience related to supporting project management functions required. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, a combination of at least four (4) years of applicable education, training and experience, which provides the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and use fingers, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
