    Position Summary

    Assists in the identification, assessment and instructional programming of English learner (EL) students. Receives general supervision from the administrator in charge of EL Education Department.

    General Duties
    • The Bilingual Facilitator is part of a team of itinerant paraprofessionals who work in cooperation with and under the coordination of the EL Education Department. The members of the team assist in all aspects of the program's procedures pertinent to the identification, placement and evaluation of EL students.
    • Receives oral or written instructions from the supervising teacher.
    • Collects and files the information required in the EL Education Department student folder, following established procedures for the preliminary assessment of language dominance.
    • Maintains the EL Education Department students' files.
    • Compiles and submits all the data necessary to fulfill the mandates of the program evaluation, annual reports and various other local, state and federal compliance requirements to the EL Education Department office on an on-going basis.

    Additional Duties
    • Administers language assessments in English and home language, following established procedures and criteria for the determination of language proficiency.
    • Assists in program placement, acting in consultation with school-based personnel and the EL Department.
    • Assists in carrying out the established procedures for the annual review process.
    • Assists in carrying out the established procedures for communications with parents regarding children's assessment and placement.
    • Assists in the review requested by parents concerning assessments, entry into and exit from EL program.

    Qualifications Profile
    • Experience working with elementary, middle school and high school students.
    • Successful experience working with a diverse student population.
    • Minimum of a high school diploma; some college or EL teaching experience preferred.
    • Strong sense of commitment and responsibility toward our student population.
    • Pleasant personality and be able to establish rapport with students, parents and school personnel.
    • Fluency in English and Spanish or Haitian Creole is an essential requisite for this position.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in the two languages, both verbally and in writing.
    • Knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.


    Days: Monday Friday (27.5 hours weekly/schedule determined by EL Director)
    Salary: $25.42 - $30.35
    Group: Two

    Work year: August - June (10 Months/40 weeks)
